Manitoba | Have a knock-off honda engine on a two inch pump right now that is a POS. What is the best model of two inch honda pump to pump diesel fuel. Is there special seals required for diesel fuel? Read somewhere that honda makes an ag model that is compatible with several different ag chemicals. does this include diesel fuel or diesel harmful to any seals? is a cast pump or poly pump preferable? Just want something that I can easily get parts for. Have had power ease pumps, General power product pumps and they are all inferior to honda engines in my opinion. Thanks

West central Ohio | The Honda multi purpose pumps we use are rated for chemicals. Model WMP20XA1. Two inch Poly pump. Honda website lists the chemicals, but does not list diesel. Got tired of junk Honda knockoffs and went back to the real thing.

![]() Caraway, AR | You absoultly do not want a poly or any type of plastic for fuel. Cast iron or aluminum is good. John

![]() Caraway, AR | I'm not a chemist.....but the fuel causes the poly to swell up or deform. John

Manitoba | Just talked to a honda dealer in north dakota and he says you can only get the multi purpose pump in a thermo-plastic pump housing, cast or aluminum is not an option. does thermo-plastic mean its better than normal poly/plastic pump. supposedly this pump is designed to hold up to chemicals, but what about diesel?? I can get a cast or aluminum in other pump models but who knows if the seals will hold up to diesel.

![]() Caraway, AR | I don't know wheather or not thermoplastic would be better than polyplastic. I would want to know from the supplier that the thermo would stand diesel. I have a feeling the thermo is for water based chemical only.. John

Lots of different kinds of plastics. Saying that they are all the same is like saying that all metals are the same (steels, aluminum, magnesium, pot metal, etc.). It is a dis-service. Compatibility charts for acids, bases & organics can be found at places like www.usplastic.com or www.mcmaster.com. Would guess that McMaster will actually have a write-up on choosing the right pump. They have write-ups for many things from bolts to you-name-it. There is a reason that many fuel cans today are plastic and are rated for gasoline, ethanol blends, diesel, biodiesel blends, kerosene, etc. The compatibility issues with pumps generally isn’t with the base material of the pump but with seals and gaskets. There you need to understand that gaskets suitable for diesel may not be suitable for diesel blends with biodiesel.

Where I work, we have sold several Honda cast-iron pumps for use with diesel. We just change out the epdm seals for viton seals and away they go.

MN | We have used the Honda for a couple years, only problem we had was the rubber check valve inside the pump disintegrated and plugged the nozzle up. I believe there is a special O-ring and internal check valve that will stand up to diesel. Can empty 500 gallon tank in 7 minutes. (Equipment 008.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Northern Illinois | We use a plain old Red Lion cast iron with a 3.5 briggs from farm & fleet. 1 1/2" hose with a nozzle from a tank truck on a 2000 gal. single wall tank. Probably illegal as heck. Moun.. ted a old underbody box on the rear, put a divider in it. Carry 2-5 gal pails of oil, grease tube and a small gas can for the pump. The other side houses the pump and a gate valve as when the tank is full it will gravity flow through the pump. We lock it up. Has worked fine for 6 yrs.

![]() Chebanse, IL..... | We've had a Pacer pump/Honda knockoff fuel pump for a few yrs now. It works great. We bought the pump/engine combo @ local Rural King. I think it was $189 a few yrs ago. The engine "looks" like a Honda, but it isn't. Certainly not a surprise to anyone. However, for the few annual hours we demand, it works just fine. Always starts, which is important. Our model is a 5 hp, which is more than ample for pumping diesel thru a 1" fuel hose. The pace pump is plastic & works fine. If I were buying another one tomorrow, I'd buy the same thing. HOWEVER-I believe the Pacer folks do recommend the "Buna" seal kit (available separately...not expensive) vs epdm or viton for fuel. Here's link to our Pacer pump, though this one is newer: http://www.pacerpumps.com/econoAg.php This is our tank/pump combo in operation. As others post, there is absolutely NO comparison between the pumping time of any electric vs the cheapest gas-powered pump. Again, compare the price we paid for the Pacer vs a high-output 12V pump. Then compare the gpm. I believe the Pacer is rated at 50 gpm, but with our 1" fuel hose, we've constricted that. I'm sure it easily does 30-35 gpm. We hardly ever run the engine full-throttle.

Manitoba, Canada | Yes you will be fine with a poly pacer/banjo pump, but like a couple have stated diesel will eat EPDM rubber. So make sure to throw away the check valve and order a Viton Seal kit for the pump. They are cheap, i have to order a new set tommrow, probibally just order it through the deere dealer. If you have any spare hypro pumps kickin around they work well too if you have hydraulic power. They usually have viton seals as it is. Edited by nevinstobbe 7/28/2010 01:14
