Western WI | Took apart a 4250 for a water leak between block and front cover, gonna replace gasket and front seal. Should I plan on replacing water pump while Im in there?? Also what about the vibration dampner ? Tractor has 4300 hours and has never been apart as far as I know.
TIA

ND | I would install a kit in the water pump and replace the dampner, you will never be any closer. |

West Central Alberta Coldest, wettest edge | Resealing/replacing the water pump is very cheap maintenance on those tractors considering that it is gear drive( at least I believe the 4250 is) and a leak can put coolant into the oil and ruin the engine. at a minimum check and unplug the drain hole between the seals. If the 4250 turns out to be belt drive, then disregard this entire post. |

Kissimmee, FL | I used to be a John Deere partsperson and we sold very few dampeners, only during a complete overhaul. The waterpump however would be an inexpensive and easy job to do. |

Fruita CO | I know where there's a damper off a 4450 that was perfectly OK at 8K, changed out when the engine was done, & one off a 4650 that totally failed at about 6K-so, I guess I'd say look it over good, if it's good run it a while...it's not all that hard to change, & the 42 will not be as hard on it as the bigger engines...
And yes, definitely do the water pump while it's out...
