Was just wondering if anybody has had any experience with these 25 series tractors. It would be used for small backhoe work, patching tile holes, and running augers. Transport speed is somewhat important to me, but really would like to hear the good, or bad of them. Thanks

I have a 5525. It is a great disappointment to me and JD does not care. 46 hours in one year and alot of them came from JD trying to figure out the problems. Used my old Ford Major for another years busy season. Visited with territory manager at JD days last week. Said he had read my satisfaction report but didn't want to talk about things unless I mentioned it. What a chicken! He said JD tried and thats the way things were. That is my experience with the 25 series. Have other JD tractors and equiptment that I am satisfied with. Good luck

We have a 5325 mfwd we ordered it with the bar tires on back, cant remember what size they are on the front we have the industrial bar tread (like on a skidsteer). The only problem we had was the oil filter wasn't seating right on the seal but all it took was a knew filter. We have a John Deere loader(cant remember model #) on it and fluid in the rear tires. The top speed is about 16-18 mph. We use around the farm for light loader work, auger, and rototiler. It can also be carried on a car trailer which is handy for us since we have two farm locations. We run a 13"-71' westfield auger with it in wheat and beans.

Owned one since Oct. / 95 and have been very satisfied. Used daily in winter/spring feeding and cleaning out 2 beef barns, and used a lot of the time baling, planting and hauling wood the rest of the year. Clock now reads 920 hours. Just a small farm, can't afford to let an investment in a new tractor just sit.

Only problem of note was in the summer when the fuel filter leaked; the diaphram on the hand primer pump had gone bad. Mechanic come into the field to replace it inbetween loads of hay. When new, the digital speedometer showed a maximum speed of 19.5 MPH, confirmed with GPS. However, the speedo now reads considerabley too fast, seems the readout is now kilometers per hour.
Best feature is the power shuttle transmission, works well. Variable speed shuttle is an option. Control layout (for open station tractors) is great, big improvement even over 5020-series Deere, and switch operated MFWD axle.
Speed of the loader is no improvement over my old tractor; the 5425 my uncle owns has a bigger hydraulic pump and a faster loader. Also noticeabely more torque. Acceleration in road gear has quite a delay when you mash the throttle - probably the engine computer trying to keep you from spouting black smoke up the exhaust. Fuel economy not that great compared to old IH tractor.
Mine came off the dealer's lot with single hydraulic remote, it had no dedents!! Can't use a woodsplitter with it. In order to get dedents, Deere makes you have to buy the triple remote with variable flow control, which replaces existing valve (can't just add on). Waaaaaayyyyy too expensive -- would be much cheaper just to buy a seperate gas-powered woodsplitter then to upgrade the tractor's valve.

I would certainly recommend one for this horsepower range. What kind of problems were you having, Dakota?

I would be interested in hearing your problems too dakota. I purchased a case ih jx65 new in 05, and it has been somewhat of a dissapointment for me. Since I've had it, its been in the shop two seperate times for a total of four months. Something in the pto is breaking, and the tractor has to be split. If it were to get stolen, or burn up i don't think i would be to broken hearted over it. I just don't want to trade for the sake of trading, and still have problems. thanks for the replies.

Hello,

The biggest problem is the hydralic system. Have two remotes and terrible vibration and noise in the steel lines. Like a constant scream starting at about 12-14 hundred rpm. It disappears if you go to float position. JD can't find anything wrong. Have the 18.4 x 30 tires. They are way to big. Can only adjust tread to a couple of sizes only. These set the tractor way to tall. Had to buy drop down drawbar to help solve the height issue. No traction and the book says not to overweight it.
Poor fit on hood and panels. Next, would start and then quit. Checked lift pump and JD took the pump apart. Finally put a check valve next to the fuel tank and now it will stay running. I also do like some things about it. Will give it a good work out this year as not much hay crop last year.

I bought a Zetor 4341 3 years ago. Equivalent to a JD5325 size. Fuel consumption is about 1 gal per hour. Only warranty repair was the dealer replaced the battery. Rubber nubbies in sub zero temps on the brake light microswitches would stiffen up and light the brake lights in the barn. Took the nubbies off & no more problems. 16.9x30's with wheel weights, added a 55g drum filled with concrete on the 3pt last Fall & helps to keep the tail down. I pull a JD3600 4x18 on land hitch plow, no problem with power just loose traction when snagging roots & boulders. Cab heat & AC is excellent. I put a Pioneer 200W CD radio & speakers in it. Drawbar & PTO matches up with our JD A for implements. I have the Zetor loader plenty strong with quik tach and multiple buckets and a 3rd function grapple. Loader attach is drive in & out longest task is hooking up the 6 hoses. Has a ground speed PTO so can get 540 just above idle. Zetor has far more 3pt lift capacity. Parts & service binders cost me $35 each

Anyway last week had my first failure... no clutch after sitting in the barn since Oct. turned out to be the clutch slave cylinder. Took about 5 mins to remove it. A new part was $47 and UPS'sd next day to the barnyard. Another hour & had my snow clearing machine back before that 20" dropped!

My next tractor is going to be a narrow width 53/54xx open station. If Zetor makes a narrow version I'd buy in a minute.

18c ditch system
We were lookin at the 5325 for township road ditch mowing..... dealer told NOT to go with the low torque 5 cylinder 5325, BUT to go to the 5425 and we did........it has a cab and is a two wheel drive........ it should really be a mfd and should have the 12 speed Shutte tranny. We orderd the 9 speed dry clutch special, mistake. The 5325 is a four cylinder.
