Does anyone have any info on how less efficient it is to spray RUP on cloudy days vs. when the sun is out? We have some fairly weed no-till beans that need to get sprayed but we have not seen the sun in 4 days (and it seems like it is misty if it is not raining) Should I wait for a sunny day or get after them now???? Thanks for any help.

I am sure around here whenever we can spray across a field and not leave ruts it will be sprayed! Fields are getting ugly, still have alot of custom acres of corn with lots of water sitting on it. Not to mention beans with knee high weeds already.

I would get them sprayed now if I could. I was finally able to get back in the field late Fri. and sprayed till dark. Sat. morning we had another 2" of rain, more on Sunday and now heavy rain all day today. There will be some poor crops here in SE IA this year. Some fields haven't been planted yet and those that have been have a lot of water damage. If it ever dries up I don,t know if we will have any N for the corn we have left.

Blvd d'Espair Bowhill, Sth Aust | Have a look at this link http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs/10.1081/CBI-120002877 It is well established that Glypho works better in bright sunlight ( all else being equal, which it seldom is...) but it still works even in the dark of night. Interestingly, but of no help to you, is that Paraquat works the opposite way, and actually works better in low light conditions.. ( all else being equal, again, which it seldom is...)

Macon, IL | I am pretty small farm so generally try to wait for good days. I have had two instances where I was forced into somethign less than optimal. First time was a flat tire on spary tractor-and I had to leave town for day job for a a week-so by the time I got tire fixed it was 7:00 before I started spraying and I finished about 9:00pm. I was worried it wouldn't work, and after first week there was a noticable difference-the stuff sprayed in afternoon looked to kill much quicker-but 2 weeks later you couldn't tell which was sprayed mid afternoon and which was sprayed at night. The other time it was cloudy, and got cold for about a week after a burndown spray. After 7 days you could hardly tell it had been sprayed. But like the other time after 15 or 16 days it was fine. Long winded way of saying from what I have seen the kill is just slower when sprayed in poorer conditions. I may have gotten lucky with dew or whatever and am not saying it will always work-just what I have seen.

N/E Iowa | Here in N/E iowa we have the same problem! raining every 3 to 5 hours, can't get enough of a dry spell to get going. weeds are knee high (rags), and the grass is completely shading the bean rows!! There is alot of corn that needs to be sprayed, some haven't been spryaed for the first time yet...YIKES is all i have to say. I have about half of are 2nd pass complete on are corn, and no beans sprayed yet. too muddy, been getting 1/2 to 3/4 of rain every two to three days, for the pass week. Bad news most of this corn including mine is shading the row if not completly shaded. Co-op said they are backed up for a soild week on farmers without sprayers!! Corn looks good up here, beans are 4 to 5 inches tall, and the weeds are even taller!! there are farmers still waiting on there first cutting of hay, we have are 2nd cutting about a week off. everything is looking good to fair......................if I could spray for three days!! rain 4 out of the next 5 days (40%) chance. Doesn't look good, for mowing, or getting anything sprayed. Looks like the drops may be put on the sprayer?

Spray in the first part of the day if possible, don't worry about the morning dew. If the weeds are growing actively, don't worry about clouds. Anything sprayed after 7PM or so will have reduced performance if it rains later that night. Timing is everything with post chemicals. Another way to look at it- The rainfast is maybe 1 hr. for powermaxx, but if you spray late in the evening, your 1 hr. starts at 7 am the next morning.

New Ulm, MN | Well after my post a few days ago about spraying after a rain. i checked the feild, weeds where dry, strong winds were forecast so i went in a sprayed it. it was cloudy cool and muddy. dad checked and said weeds arnt dieing, i said look again the beans are growing bigger and weeds are stalled out, there still green but not growing anymore. thats my experince. first sunny day i bet the weeds turn brown

Seems to me that like seed in the sack that doesn't grow, chemical in the jug doesn't kill weeds, and the sooner its on the weeds (e.g. the younger the weeds) the better its going to kill. If you are worried about efficiency or optimized application, increase the rate (within label limits, of course). If you wait and the weeds grow more mature it may take a lot more than the labeled maximum to kill them, then you are in deep dodo. Gerald J.

Northeast ks | Went through that last year- sprayed about 200 acres or so and it didn't work! It had rained a little bit the night before, so we waited, maybe till 5pm or so. It was still really humid and cloudy. Sprayed roundup and it didn't do much to the weeds- especially marestail. This year we will spray when it is sunny and not humid. Haven't sprayed the beans yet, though.

edgerton ks. | Kill with being less effective. 1. Wil the apparent kill be slower on a cloudy day? YES 2. Will the kill be less effective on a cloudy day? NO. Later in the heat of summer I would rather spray on a cloudy cooler day than when it's blazing hot out.

Lancaster, OH | If your rates are not low, I'd spray. I don't ever remember having a glyphosate complaint that was connected with cloudy conditions.
