Live in Forsyth, Missouri Farm in N, MO | Started doing a little farming with my in laws this year. Spreading fertilizer, no-tilling into sod 6rn JD 7000 planter hard time seeing marker track. And Spraying with a pull type 36' boom sprayer. Had a lot of issues with spacing.... Looking for a fairly inexpensive GPS system that might help with these situations. Pretty bad when you see green strips after spraying. Question is would the Outback S lite solve all these issues or is it accurate enough?

N Central IA | The accuracy will be within a foot, will help you with spraying and fertilizing and maybe help keep on the mark when planting. You could also find a used S-2 which would give more accuracy for same price as the Lite.

Peotone, IL 60468 | Have one for spraying, works pretty good. 60 foot boom, width set at 59' haven't missed a strip yet, but I wouldn't plant with it. Not accurate enough.

Eastern Ontario | You can plant with it, in conjunction with mechanical markers. At about 6pm when you can't see it'll at least tell you if you're following the marker or a cultivator/disk mark in the field. Also, if you're one of these people obsessed with straight rows you can set an AB line and it'll tell you where you're out the most to help you straighten up crooked rows.....

West Union, Illinois | How badly do you want one? I bought 3 last year, but we have done some tractor trading and changing of how we do things and have one I really don't need. It was handy planting male rows. Not accurate enough to plant by, but did warn you if you were off a row. The problem I have with the AB lines on these is the free signal is not accurate enough to be consistent. If you set an AB line on one side of the field and go to the other and start back you will be off before you get there. Using the contour mode, which works off your last pass, accuracy is pretty good. Folks who know more than me (that's a BIG list) tell me the only way to get better accuracy is a unit utilizing a subscription service . As the guy told me when I bought them, you're not going to get any more accurate doing the driving. They are generally as accurate as my driving abilities. I like mine, sure helps take a bit of stress out of spraying process. Planting does better with a marker, in my opinion. I bummed a ezguide plus off my cousin before I had the Slite, it worked as well or maybe better. Now my green strips after spraying can only be blamed on... the chemical. Works for me!

Tabor City, NC | Hey I am new to the site but found this post and was wondering with the Slite do you have trouble losing signal. I have never ran a guidance system other than for a demo and was really interested in th Slite due to the price. Mike if Worthmore is not interested in your Slite let me know please I would be very interested in it. Thanks

Ripley, Ontario Canada | I bought an S Lite this spring. I did use it to plant with, but used the marker too, had one field where the tail wind made seeing impossible (like driving in a snow storm) so had to plant by GPS one way, worked ok but I could (and did) snap the AB line often going the other way to keep fairly accurate. I have some trouble getting it to pick up the next pass in conture mode with a 40 foot width for spraying, it can't decide if I am still going on the headland, or have turned around and started down the field soon enough for me to get started right. What I do is start on 1 corner of the headland in conture of the straight side of the field and do that headland, the far side and the other headland in a C shape and then double back to get 2 widths of the sprayer for a headland to keep the boom out of the fence. Then when I get back to where I started, I go down the long straight side and start a new ab line, and work off that for the rest of the field. Over all the S Lite is a basic GPS, that could use a few more features, but can't be beat on price. Edited by John In Ontario 6/5/2010 23:14

West Union, Illinois | tyler - will it do mapping too? to see any skips? how about auto boom shut off/on? My gut reaction was to say no, but I decided to jump over to Outbacks's web site (www.outbackguidance.com) first. Surprise! I found the S-Lite will work with the AutoMate systemI know, so what? Quoting the web site: The AutoMate allows you to manage up to 10 different sections of your boom and multiple planter sections. This automation results in drastic savings associated with application costs. The system recognizes both pre-defined applied zones and/or previous coverage areas. The AutoMate is designed for simple, hands-free operation. Simply set-up the unit and the system will automatically turn on and off sections when covering areas already applied. The system will also turn sections back on automatically on unapplied sections, eliminating skips. As far as mapping, I would really doubt it because there is no display. And if you could plug your computer in and get it to work, I would venture other models and systems would be still probably be better suited. I believe the S-Lite is designed as an entry level system. If you want more functions you need to go to a more feature rich product.

Live in Forsyth, Missouri Farm in N, MO | Thanks for all the information; since i wont use one till next spring i think i may wait a while and look for the outback 2 it sounds like a better system as far as accuracy. One thing i would like to find is a system that is simple to use. Any suggestions????

Brazilton KS | If you just want a lightbar, the Slite will work as well as anything. If you want mapping (and I would certainly want mapping) then an STS is what you are looking for. If you are willing and able to figure things out, you can use the Slite and a laptop with a mapping program. I used a laptop for years before mapping solutions were on the market. Autosteer in everything is the answer.
Just depends on what you want to spend.
