Subject: rogator boom shut off

I have an 854 rogator. I am tired of trying to stare down the dot of foam and flipping all booms and hoping you covered it all and didnt overlap too much. I have an ez guide 500 and ez steer in another tractor that could be used. I am not real fond of the 500 since it ocasionally will lock up and have to be restarted. This problem seems to come and go in streaks. I have the newer software but I think I need to rewire my power plug, last night I touched to plug and it shut down and restarted.

My Question is what is the cheapest and most user friendly way to get into auto boom shut offs. It currently has a raven 440? The raven 440 seems to be bullet proof. Could I install the ez500 for boom shutoff and keep the raven for rate control?
Thanks

#1 - wire your ez-steer to direct power dont use the cig lighter, that is your problem with that unit.

#2 - you can buy an ez-boom and T it into the 440 harness. The 500 and ezboom will control section shutoff and the 440 will control the rate. not sure on the part # off hand, someone on here might, or you trimble dealer should have it around. downside on this method - extra monitor as the 500 can control the rate also...upside if your 500 goes down you can still spray just without auto shutoff.

I'm not using the cig lighter. I am usig the 3 prong power plug in the tractor cab. Should I be running a hot wire from the battery? Isnt that what the 3 prong wire in the cab is?

I went with a Ravens system to control booms and LOVE it. Also got a smart trax from them haven't got all the bugs out of that yet.

If your losing power by wiggling the power source I'd look into your power source first. Also when you are at thr green grid screen hit your #1 button on the top left check to see how many storage hours you have left. If you are low on storage hours that would cause the display to reboot. If you are low on storage hours delete your field to free up storage.

You may want to consider a Raven Envizio Pro with Accuboom. The 2 list price at $5213 but most dealers will discount that some. I have installed several of these units on Rogators and work perfectly. Also if you have a serial port on the back of your raven console it will show rates and boom sections as the turn on and off.

For a sprayer,

Cheapest - Teejet

Best - Raven, with Trimble not that far behind. Support would be the biggest factor, and I am biased because I am a Raven dealer.

Really, Trimble not far behind on spray control?? I really think they are quite a ways behind Ag Leader and Raven on spray control, boom shut off, etc. They have a long ways to go as far as ease of use.

I have to agree, I'm still disappointed with the Trimble "buy out somebody so we can catch up" philosophy. I think they should have just stuck with their strong suit of building good GPS receivers and steering devices such as EZ-Steer and Autopilot.
