Subject: Butler grain bin features

Eldridge, Iowa
I have a 35 year old, 30' diameter grain bin and am wondering if it is a Butler bin or not. Can anyone tell me what features Butler bins have? Thanks.

Morris, IL
Ours has imprinting on the door and it can still be seen after a few paintings.

Central Mo

After a rain or big dew, when you open the door it will piss water on you starting at your head and extending down the arm you opened the door with.

That is the biggest feature that I can think of.  And I havent learned my lesson yet, after 30 years.

Butler bins always had the name on the top sheet steel, otherwise, the others have given you clues. Maybe you could provide more, wide corr.? How is the top hatch made, the older Butlers have a nice
big sliding top hatch, on rods . etc.

East of Dowagiac Michigan
4"wide corrigation, 44" tall sheets, usually a nice 5' tall door (tall bins had a round "submarine" hatch), inside door is hinged in 3? parts, lower doors bolt shut with 2-3/4 bolts on each side, roof manhole is round, 3 roof sheets/side sheet, fillhole lid should be on some slide rods, there is no roof stiffener ring on a Butler.

I've got two Butler bins and dri hit the nail on the head. I've been around one of these bins for 35 years and it still waters me just like dri described. If it helps, the inside door panels have two big bolts on the top of each corner to hold the door panel shut. Also, on the outside door of both of the these bins Butler Mfg. Corporation is plainly stamped.
