Northwest iowa | Anyone here ever spring for a pair of custom made Whites boots from Spokane, Wa? They claim the wearer will have less sore foot problems, and with proper care the boot will last a lifetime compared to other boots. I'm a diehard Redwing boot wearer, but they have been declining steadily in quality lately. I thought if a pair of Whites is really that comfy, and probably would last longer, it might be worth the extra money. |

Lapel, In | When you say custom boots, do you have to send a foot pattern? Probably my indian blood, but I have an unusual foot shape. The big toe goes straight out unlike most who have some curve to the outside of the toe. As a result I am always having problems with ingrown toenails. |

Janesville Ca, 96114 | At the ripe old age of 42, I can tell you, I have had only 2 pairs of work boots my whole adult life. Both Whites. I wear them daily usually going from one pair to the other every other day. I can not tell you how many times I have had them rebuilt, resoled, or reworked. They are well worth the money. Totally comfortable after you get them broke in. Figure it out. If you are buying new Red Wings annually and you're in the hole after 2 or 3 years. |

Kittitas Co. Wa. State | Yes, White's are custom made you put on your sock(s) draw an outline of your foot and they are made to fit your foot shape. If you have flat feet or high arches, etc.. tell them about that too so they will build the boot to match your foot. I don't have a pair but my Dad swore by them. He had 2 pair and the boots lasted him 20 some odd years. Obviously they are totally rebuildable. (most all his life, Dad wore 2 pair socks, light weight pair and heaver pair over the top, his feet sweat allot) White's are an "investment" vs: just a cheap pair you buy wear out and toss. The thing I look at is $$ per year miles walked and correct posture when walking/standing etc. If work consists of basically sitting in a tractor seat most of the year, the $$ per mile walked will be higher. If you really are on your feet a lot of the year, your feet back, etc.. will all feel better. Its a "right tool for the job" situation. Kind of like buying a new 4x4 tractor,, you don't go out and look for the cheapest tires you can find to put on it...???? |

nw iowa | bob,i wanted to tell you about a bit of info on ingrown toe nails.i have fought them too for years,now as a diabetic i can't risk the infection that often goes with the ingrown nail.go see a good foot doctor,they now have a procedure where they cut out the ingrown nail on both sides and then treat it with a chemical to prevent the sides/edges of the nail from growing so you do not have to put up with the nail hurting or infection ever again.i just had it done on mine after fighting ingrowns for years.just thought you may like to know there is a cure for the problem. |

Ea. Washington | They also sell an over the counter boot called Hathorn that is the same last just a little lighter and they say not rebuildable but that is because it costs as much as the new boot. Work just fine except they take more frequent oiling and care. Worn whites for 60 yrs now but they are getting a little heavy to drag around. Still feel good when I put them on though. Another boot made in Spokane is Nick,s boot. Look just the same and maybe some people that make them might be ex White,s employes. Both good. Oklahoma | Looked at White's once. I have long flat narrow feet and had heard good things about them. What stopped me was the cost of the rebuild. Seemed like they quoted me $75 for new soles plus shipping to them and back. When I asked the gal what all they rebuilt she just indicated they would rebuild from there and the cost went up. I figured I could buy a new pair of HH for the cost of a rebuild and she wouldn't comment on how long between rebuilds. Obviously it depends on your useage.
So, what does a rebuild cost? How long does it last assuming daily wear on concrete, dirt, some mud and manure? For example, I usually get about a year and half out of my HH before the sole or the side goes out. What is that going to run roughly cost wise?

Too close to Raleigh, NC | got both of mine done a few years ago - no more fighting ingrown toenails. Just make sure you don't catch anything with the toe while barefoot because the nail does not have anything holding it down on the sides and they can peel up easily. Have not BTDT yet and don't ever want to. |

Eastern Montana | I've had 2 pair rebuilt. I don't recall what the cost was. The only part that wasn't replaced was the tops. They are well worth the cost, they lasted twice as long as any other boot before the rebuild. |

Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot | Worth every penny. If your feet sweat a lot buy two pairs so you can let one dry every other day, and have a spare pair if the other is in the shop. Not expensive to get rebuilt, and the last forever anyway. Use the boot grease that Whites sells, keeps the leather in great shape and they are almost waterproof.
I always had foot, back, leg problems until I finally bought a set of whites. $400 seems pretty cheap once you can finally walk right. I can't remember what height I had, but they went most of the way up the calf and added a lot of support to my ankles.
They will not seem like much for a couple of weeks, but once your feet get broke in to the boots you'll never buy anything else. Unfortunately I have to wear a special leg brace that requires a light shoe, so I can't wear my Whites anymore. Wish I could. |

Embarrass WI | I bought a pair of Whites a couple years ago based on the overwhelming support for them on here. My feet must be different than everyone else's, I don't care for them at all. I tried to wear them long enough to get through a break-in period, but it never happened in 6-8 weeks. They are heavy and the soles have no cushion. I plan to give them another try this summer, but as of now, I wouldn't buy another pair even if the price was the same as the cheapies from WallyWorld. |

| one is a hathorn , other is white 9.5 d only 3-4 years old on the hathorn , maybe 5-6 on the white.
will need new heels, soles , lining, vamp, restitched, some eyelets and laces and limbered up. they was put away wet, and the spider webs cleaned out. the top 3 inches are real good shape, and one or 2 of the lace hooks also okay. Instead of a steel support they use leather and one of the left boots is kinda bent a little funny.
as long as u don't walk with it, it is okay. |

Bonanza, Or | When you have a complete rebuild on Whites it will cost half of a new pair of boots. A complete rebuild will replace sole, heel, and lower leather. |

Kittitas Co. Wa. State | Good friend of my dad's had to wear a leg brace most of his life. (from a little "incident" during WWII in New Guina which involved some alcohol too apparently..) He told his brace to Whites,,, and the Company actually fitted the brace right into the sole of the boot. The boot was actually cut and molded so the brace became part of the boot. Looked kinda funny when he'd take his boots off and have a 2 foot brace that almost reached his knee sticking up from the boot. But worked great for him and all you could see was the steel brace coming up the sides of the boot. You might give them a call and see what they could do ?? |

Also, if you ever get knee problems the first thing the Doc is going to tell you is to get rid of your cowboy boots and high heeled logger boots. |

| I bought a pair while I went to college, wore them every day to school, then to work after to mechanic. for five years. I resoled them over eight times while I was in school. I then took a farm equipment sales job, wore them for another two years. Then back to the farm. I had them over ten years. I can't remember how many times I resoled them. I never had to do a complete rebuild on them. Boy they fit like a glove. I tried the others, Whites have them all beat. My problem now is I have to wear rubber boots most of the time for the dairy or irrigation in the summer so I've went to wearing cheaper slip on boots, because I've got to change boots 5-6 times a day.
I love to wear lace up boots, but I've have to ride horseback a lot, so I try to wear slip on boots for that. Plus I've gotten bone spurs on my toes now, and slip on cowboy boots hurt them. Have to go to wide to round toes or square toe boots in cowboy boots. I thinking of getting a pair of Danner or Whites again. |
