Subject: Cat 65E

Looking into a Cat 65E has about 5000 hours on it and its a bareback. Can anyone tell me what a good price would be on it? Also was this a good model for Cat? Or shoudl i expect a lot of trouble with it? Thanks

We bought our 75D that had PTO 4 remotes about 3300 hours 330 HP for like 65000 2.5 years ago. I think 60 is to much for that size of tractor with that many hours and bareback. I would give around 50. But i guess it depends on the belts, we put new belts on that were 17,000.

$50,000 to 60,000, depends if it's clean, good tracks, and a good history. I like mine very much and I think the 65E's were the best tractor CAT built. The newer challengers have a lot of electronics, Don't know if good or bad?

have never run a 65 E but have a LOT of time in a 95 E kinda apples to oranges but would have to agree with the above post the the E series was a ver very good . the MT series is also good but its hard to beat an E series. I would look and see if it has the on bored " performance" monitor ( dont know the technical term sorry. it is located on the ceiling of the cab above the wheel it will tell you lots of info. I have been told that you can fake the hours on these machines but that litle black box wont lie.

How do they fake the hours? I have looked at a couple and the hours on the tack are not correct. You can run a serial number at cat dealer and will get service history that has told a much different story. There a couple of 95E on tractor house that are more than double or triple the hours that are advertised.

bootsbowen. I was wondering if you could explain again how to check those hours inside the cab. The reason i ask is I ran a serial number and it has 2000 hours on it after only one year of running it. It now has only 5275 on it 10 years later? Something doesnt add up here! Thanks

Dont know if you will look this far back to get a response to your question as trouble said the hours on the tac can be wrong. As far as i know in some of the e series tractor there is a small black box that will display all sorts of info including hours. If you sit in the seat and look up at the head liner it will be rite there i think it should have 4 bottons with arrows on it. use the arrows to scroll threw its functions ( RPM's, hours, trans gear, fuel per hour, ect lots of info) like i said as far as I know this small bax box isnt in all E series tractors. But from what i have been told by Cat service techs this will always tell you the actual hours. I hope this helps sorry if it still dosnt help good luck

thanks for the help. If i go to look at the tractor i will definitly look into this possibilty. I guess im just a little worried on buying a tractor adn spending that amount of money on it and not knowing the actually hours!
