Subject: Bourgault Air Seeder Tanks

Manitoba
I have a Concord air seeder with a 1502 Concord air tank. I'm looking at switching to a different air tank. Dont like the metering system on the Concord. Its not the most accurate and doesnt clean out very well when getting down to the last bit of seed. If the meter is set so its at a lower rate it leaves a few bushels in the tank when it runs out. This is especially annoying with canola. Bougault tanks look like a good system to me. I would be looking at something from the late 90s or early 00s. When did they come out with that clever stepless trans for setting the seed rate? On the older ones where you change sprokets, are the steps between sprokets small enough? Do the older ones have good moniters and controls? Thanks.

You will need a 5000 series cart to get away from the chain/sprocket selection setup. I think they were out in 1999 or so. I have a(2001) 5350 TBH. I used our old (built in1993)3225 with dual fans and granular tank/kit to broadcast seed and put fert down the shanks on 1600 acres of Canola and mustard. The drive setup on my 5350 is VERY nice.
We have accurately put out 3.5#'s of Canola with the 3225. Monitors are basic but reliable (and fixable for reasonable $$$).
Because we have the granular kit we have LOTS of sprockets, but still had to borrow a 16 tooth and 64 tooth last spring. 150# of 33-0-0-11, 75# of S15 (13-33-0-15) down the shanks and 5# of 8440LL out the granular tank/kit.
Very hard to beat a BG air cart.

My Bourgault 2115 is the only tank I"ve ever used so I might be biased. Its very simple and reliable as far as the metering system goes. Plenty of range for adjustment just by changing sprockets. Not much for maintenance on it, just oil the chains once in a while, grease the bearings, thats about it.

The sprockets steps were about 1/4 of a lb in canola. Suggest you find a 5000 series with cab rate adjust. The rate setting is infinite from the tractor and stays accurate if it has the PDM plus auger. The shear pins were updated to resetting torque limiters in the 6000. The hyd power calibration is a must have. There are still 3 ranges on the auger but no sprockets to change. The most canola left when tank is empty is about 2 lbs. Clean out is simple with no mess.
