Iowa
I need a history lesson. I was driving through Sac City, IA on Saturday and saw an H or M with a cab on it. Did someone manufacture a cab for these tractors (i.e.- Hiniker)? From 55mph on the highway it looked like the cab was designed to mate up nicely with an H or M. I have seen a variety of Hiniker and other aftermarket cabs over the years but never one specifically for an H or M.

Thanks

Central Iowa
A company called "Automatic" made a cab with a rear door for rear entry tractors such as an IH H or M, or a JD 60 or 70 plus other brands as well.

I think Tokheim (sp) made one for the H and M as well, same company that made gas pumps.

Chebanse, IL.....

This is the only one I've ever seen. It's on a straight M @ the 2009 Farm Show @ Rantoul, IL. I know nothing of the history or workings. The name tag on the frame rail says this tractor belongs to Richard Brunga of Milford, IL. Nice tractor! Maybe Richard or a neighbor reads here?

Some guys put the aftermarket cabs from newer tractors on those once in awhile. Mostly to get out of the wind while moving snow. They do look best while driving by at 55. Most of them look pretty rough, the closer you look.

My dad had a 1947 H that came with a cab. He accquired the H and cab from a world war II veteran, who got the tractor instead of a car because of a drinking problem. That was back in the days when equipment and vehichles were rationed and there was a ceiling price on what you could pay for supplies.. My dad had bought a WC Allis on a neighbors auction, when his name was drawn from a $1.00 raffle to the Red Cross. The veteran who bought {or maybe it was givin to him} the Farmall H, wanted a Allis WC, so my dad traded him for it. As I remember it , the back was open and it had a canvas with snaps and a plastic window. I only remember him using it one winter and he took it off and got a heathouser. It looked a lot like the one in the picture that Ron posted.

Do you happen to know whatever happened to the H with the cab?

Had a Yearound cab, tried on the 730 d, would have been a mess to use with doors to the front and as far back as the seats were mounted on any tractor of that era. I think on a tractor like an M, you could turn the Yearound to the rear and enter thru the side doors fairly easily. Sold the good cab still have a wide one that was scorched in a fire, may try that someday.

I think Dad swapped the cab with the Farmall dealer for somthing back in the late 40's. We kept the H around and I sold it to a collector 5 years ago. I saw the cab about 20 years ago, on a H about 10 miles from home, asked the farmer about 10 years ago, what he had done with it,and he said he had no idea where it ended up at. Some day if I see his son, I'll have to ask him if he can remember what happened to it.
