Fancy Prairie, IL | I bought this tractor awhile back and it has been a work in progress (still is) thought you guys might like to see some pics, something to look at while most of us will be buried in snow soon. This tractor was parked for about 15-20 yrs as it was getting water in the engine oil. I drove by this tractor for about 8 years until (with the help of a friend) I finally got ahold of the owner and struck a deal. We fabbed up a drawbar to pull the tractor to the shop (about 10 miles). Tore the motor down and found that it was overhauled in 5-87 (stamped in the block deck) at that time it was bored .030 over. Completely disassembeld the engine and only found minimal damage in one of the cam bearings from the water. I ended up replacing all the wear parts again and took the crankcase to a local mach shop to get the crank polished and the cam bearings pressed in. After a long wait at the machine shop. I picked it up and started re-assembling it. just got it running and back together a few weeks ago. Thought I would post some pics of the work in progress and its current state. Still waiting for some dry weather to go out an work it. I will post some pics of when it's all done. Thanks to RC Ohda Farm Repair in Walnut, IL for all the help, thanks to Frank for tons of help and shop use for way too long. For all that don't know a G1355 is basically a Minneapolis Moline from the bell housing forward, and a Oliver 2255 from there back. There are subtle differences here and there, but mostly is the same. It has a Minneapolis Moline 585 c.i. naturally aspirated engine. Uses the standard Oliver 6spd trans with the 3 speed over/under hydraul shift. This tractor is the predecessor of the White 2-150. The engine is the same as the one used in the A4T-1600 4WD Moline tractor. This particular tractor was built in 1974, they were built from '72-'74. They were made in three colors MM yellow, Oliver Green, and Cockshutt/White Red (these were badged as a White 2270). There are quite a few yellow one out there but very few Oliver green ones. Not sure how many red ones there are up there in Canada. nw mb | Nice work! My dad had a White 2270, I always liked the way the windows opened in those tractors. Theres still a few in our area, 2 I know of for sure.

Fancy Prairie, IL | The windows are kinda different on it. The cold night I drove it home was fun, with the sound of that big motor funneling right in the cab...along with all the cold air! Got any pics of the tractor you guys had? I love seeing the original pics of these type of tractors in thier "hay day"

Nice looking tractor. I have a 1355 M-M Diesel we bought new in 1974. Also have a 1355 LP which is my favorite tractor to run. I see you have the external oil pump which is a good addition that was available after 1975 when the tractors were all painted gray and called 2-150. Watch out when you run in your new engine that you don't get her hot as those big pistons need to wear in, I've seen several 585 engines gauld up pistons in the first 100 hours of running as the skirt clearance was too tight. There is not a prettier sounding engine under a load that a 585. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Fancy Prairie, IL | We ended up re-using the pistons in this motor, since they had very little use on them and cleaned up like brand new. There was little or no sign of the piston skirt scuffing the side of the bore. I was considering replacing them, but had a hard time locating any .030 over Zollner pistons. Thanks for the comments!

Mid Michigan | That is one tough looking tractor. Great job on it. Lots of ambition there.

central sask | Still have one complete (needs engine reassembled) and one that we stripped down for parts. Have a set or two of the Factory 38" HEAVY cast duals for them as well. Started running one as soon as i could push the clutch in pulling a 35' Morris deep tillage. We also ran up to 6 8650 WFE pull type combines with the 2270's, a 2-135, 1850's and 2290 Case's. Very smooth riding tractors, cabs were decent, Over/under hydrapower was great. A guy down by Moose Jaw SK had one bored out with a turbo kit and propane injection that was said to put out Major HP, Radial 38's on cast duals, full chloride front and rear and a weight set on front. Was told he pulled a 60' Morris DT. Even with an upgraded clutch he had to be up to speed before lowering cult. Still have an 1800C, 1750 and an 1850 in the boneyard as well. sc kansas | I love to see guys that have the patience to do this work. I would love to be able to restore them. I started on a st270 stieger and all I got done was put a sh!! load of money in it and it still looked like it did sitting in an Oklahoma pasture. Should have left it there. I finially gave up when the tranny bill was over 6500 and had already put that much in center pins, glow plugs, injector lines, starter, and the lists goes OOOONNNNNNNNN and ON. Good for you.

Fancy Prairie, IL | I haven't decided if I am going to completely restore this one or not. I really am a fan of a nice original tractor more than a restored one. I only have one that is restored, but I bought it that way. I couldnt pass it up for as nice as it was. I dont like running them because every little scratch shows up and stares at you everytime you see the tractor. This tractor is not quite done as I need to redo the inside of the cab, it needs a cab kit, blower motor, and misc other wiring work. There ar several other items outside the cab that need finishing touches also. All the glass and seals are in good shape. It would be a nice one to restore completely, just not sure if I have the patience for that. I think most of it was used up on this project! I'm sure if i wasn't for my "helper" I would have looked over a few things. I havent decided what the final purpose is for this tractor yet, I know the original plan was to sell it...but. I'm kinda liking it more all the time! PS Wife still wants it gone!

Fancy Prairie, IL | Any pictures of them in action? I wouldn't mind finding a set of the cast hubs and duals for this one.

nw mb | wow that would be impressive to see, a 60ft dt behind a old style 2wd tractor!

Elkhart, Illinois | Dang that sure is a purty color of green FP. I got some work for the ol girl if you need to stretch her legs......assuming she has a 1000 PTO Edited by black dirt 12/8/2009 21:01

Fancy Prairie, IL | Yep, the 1000 shaft is in the shop, just need to swap 'er out. The previous owner said the PTO was out of it but I can't find anything wrong so far. Had it running the baler last night...wishful thinking!!! I take it that your cart tractor might be getting a little cold?? Not sure this one has enough left of the skins to tackle the mud were looking at now.

Wheatley, Arkansas | Nice rebuild started there. We had a MM1355 once upon a time. I loved the sound of that old gal. I still think the G1000 MM had the biggest exhaust outlet of any tractor round. Post more as you git-r-done! That ought to be a great parade float puller someday!

Fancy Prairie, IL | Sure hope it pulls more than a parade float!!! LOL

central sask | No action shots . Got a couple pics of the duals. Shoot me an email and i can send them to you. Haven't taken time to learn how to post pics on here yet. When we sold our complete mint 1600 hour 2270 after grandpa passed away, we got piles of calls from the US. Nobody down there had actually seen a set of the cast dual units. 2 of our 3 had them but most others ran 20.8X38 singles or light bolt on duals.
