I was just wondering how many of you on here collect die cast toys. When I was growing up, I had a lot of 1/16 toys. Now that i'm older, I collect 1/64 toys. I am also wondering how many of you may customize them. I'm interested in doing some custom things to my collection (don't know that it could be considered a collection due to how small it is right now). I would like to put the adjustable feeder house on my 9870. I also like the movable three point hitch for the tractors. Also would like to add some duals to some stuff. Have any of you done this kind of stuff? If so, what kind of tools did you use to do the customization? Also, how difficult are most of these modifications? I also enjoying looking at other peoples pictures, so if you got 'em, post 'em. My goal someday is to have a full fledged "layout" with house, barns, machinery, storage, etc.

West Texas | I used to collect them and 'customized' some of them. I've done simple things like added dual wheels to tractors etc. Used to customize semi truck models when I was 12-15 yrs old. Built a steel grain cart with my kids some years back with help from Don Campbell on the toy forum. But I haven't done much the last several years. Not enough hrs in the day. Started building a 1/16th copy of an aluminum dump trailer like we used to have. Had all parts made and was ready to put it together but never finished it because we moved here. It was left in our shop in Holland. Just used regular tools. Whatever was available. Only had stick welders until recently and haven't had a plasma cutter but for a few months. Those sure would have came in handy during my modifying and fabricating stage. lol

Elkhart, Illinois | My mother gave away most of my toys after her and dad got divorced....... including my 2 7520's. 1 with prec;leaner, 1 without. I managed to hang onto the 5020........my current pride and joy. I started collecting precisions for awhile. I have a few early pieces including both 4020's . planter, plow, etc. I gave up when they started mass producing and making too many available in farm stores.

That's an impressive layout! If you don't mind, where did you find the 1/64 semis and grain trailers?

Montevideo,Minnesota | I everything that I build or add my touch is for myself. I don't sell any my toys. The trucks and trailers are made by Die-Cast Promotions. Here is good website. http://www.dcfarmtoys.com/farmtoys/diecast.html Very good people to deal with.

Thanks for the website. I've searched quite a bit and never come across that site. It's what I've been looking for, for semis. When you do some customizing, is it just the antennas and flags, etc., or did you do that toolbox on the front of the tracked tractors? (I'm assuming thats a toolbox) If you do other stuff, where do you get your paint? Sorry for all the questions, just wanting to find out as much info as possible on a few things before my "winter projects" begin!!! Now that I look at it again, I think it's supposed to be for weights, not a toolbox? Edited by agent007 10/17/2009 21:34

Montevideo,Minnesota | Yep, everything that you see on the tractors is done by me. Them are rock box's on all the tractors that you see. They are pretty common here in Minnesota on tractors. Thanks

Sumner GA, Located in southwest GA, | First thing I think of with your layout is a 1/64 coffee shop with a bunch of 1/64 farmers in the back corner saying that BTO is going to run everyone out of business. Seriously though, nice layout, I'm not near that ambitious. Would love to have a nice layout one day though.

Elizabethtown,KY | I still have all my 1/16th scale toys from my childhood, most are in mint shape yet, added a bunch of new stuff in the 90's, buy one piece or less/year now.

Northwest Ohio | All 1/64th here, unless it's something we actually used on the farm then I may get it in 1/16th (NI Picker, 815 combine, etc). Glad I started in 1/64th, would be a lot more expensive hobby in 1/16th. Been looking for a Massey Harris 30 (any scale), as dad just restored one (was bought new by my Grandpa). Have not found a toy version yet. Never been to Dyersville, but some year I'm going to get there.
