Central Illinois | would someone enlighten me, and maybe others, about who is McBee and Common Ground. Is Common Ground trying to sub lease farm ground through Common Ground? Why would anyone want to get involved in this type of plan?

Black Hawk County, IA | A “family” farm operation in northern Missouri on a “reality” show. The McBee family, the father and 3 or 4 sons live a pretty extravagant lifestyle on the TV show. I can’t speak as to who Common Ground is, my guess is a farm management company. I have my opinion and some suspicions. There are members here that operate in that area. NE IL | CommonGround is a website that hosts farmland rent auctions. I don’t know anything about McBees or how they are tied in with them.

Maryville, MO | Common grind is land website to buy/sell/lease farm ground McBee family, from what I’ve been able to tell, are marketers/farmers/entrepreneurs that got in some big trouble when their dad plead guilty to millions of dollars worth of crop insurance fraud last year Don’t know them personally, nor do we farm by them, so I can’t say anything about them personally They farmed a lot of ground, ~30,000-~40,000 acres from what I was told. Rented every big piece of land they could get their hands on. Seems things have not worked out They own lots of rental homes in Kansas City also, and the own a number of car washes/coffee shops in NWMO also

Rumor I heard at a seed meeting last week is that there is more than one entity involved, likely at least 3. Looking at common ground website and the leases: Lots of acres for sublease. It clearly states top bid doesn't always get the bid. Several lots the winning bid is the same buyers number as the starting bid. Most starting bids look like plenty for the the type of ground. Also noticed the $415 Denver ground from December is back up for rent and is at $250 starting bid. But maybe my phone is messed up or the site is pulling up old information. Not impressed with the common ground website and trying to navigate it.

Maryville, MO | The rumor I was told was that whoever bid $415/ac for the ground didn’t want the ground I don’t know how that works, but you can draw your own conclusions from there

Hooker Twp,Ne | To my thinking that there had to be a crop adjuster and possibly an agent in on some of it. If neighbors aren’t having those type of yield losses then there has to be a skunk in the wood pile somewhere.

Edit to add: But I suppose the adjuster and agent could/would be looked at also. Edited by cows-n-crops 1/18/2025 11:20

Pump the bid up and get people talking and draw attention to common ground website. Dump all your ground and leases on said website while dumping the first winning bid at the same time! Ya, I think that is a Pump and Dump!!!! Lol

Northwest Missouri | The website is terrible. I wouldn’t get near any of it even if it was a reasonable price, which it’s not. Everything I’ve heard is there’s many different entities as well as other operators running some farms for percentage of the crop. They knew they were cheating the system but couldn’t prove it for years. Lots of other allegations out there. Idk what’s true but money definitely flowing in from other places.

Not sure why anyone would want to get involved in that mess. Kind of fun to look at the map on the website and then find the farm on the Land Glide app to see who owns it. Looks like lots of Misery hill ground that should be pasture but is getting row cropped. You spend half your time turning around.

| I wouldn't want anything to do with any of that. There could be a scenario where the sublease tenant pays the rent and McBee's don't pay the landlord. Landlord could file a lien on the crop. Or, if McBee's file bankruptcy, the judge can do about anything. Could reduce the rent McBee's are paying the landowner while allowing them to collect the inflated rent from the sub lease tenant. | |||

| Brandon Good advice. Legal expenses could easily eat up any profit you hope to make even if you prevail. | |||
