Subject: Adding air conditioning to a truck

mn
Has anyone had good luck adding ac to a vehicle. I've got a ford f800 that I built into a hotbatch spray tender that I'd really like to add it to. Looking online theres kits from 500 to over 2500. Just wondering if anyone has any practical experience before I go too far down this rabbit hole.
Thanks

Idaho

I did it several years ago on a couple Loadstar 1600 truck. The evaporators I got off EBay something like use on hot rod cars. Compressor mounts were from Scouts. The condensers I just went to the local wrecking yard and pulled a couple that were the right size for the radiator. York compressors and they came from the wrecking yard too.

Sure I had to fab up brackets to mount the evaporators and condensers but not a big deal. New hoses custom made to fit. Systems have been trouble free and have been going for at least 24 years now. Biggest cost was the evaporators. I might of had $300.00 total into the systems and doubt it was that much.

Or you couple mount a unit on top of the cab. I still have a couple those kicking around they contained everything in the unit all you would need to do is run hoses to the compressor.

Red Dot units are a simple install vs disassembling the air box and dash to install an evaporator

You do have to cut the cab to install so I guess you have to pick your poison!

Depends on how redneck you want to go. I have talked to guys that have done this, they said it actually works great. Either put on a larger converter to run off truck battery when working or use a harbor freight generator when parked.

Red Dot roof top all in one unit. Mount the unit on top of the cab, add a compressor to the engine, run 2 lines and a couple wires and you're good to go.

I did that on my sprayer truck. Ran it with a polaris inverter it only run as fast as need to to keep the a/c working didn't use much gas.

We put some Red Dot kits on our manure trucks, mounted to the back wall of the cabs. Kits had new condensors, compressors, mounts for given engine, coil of hose, and fittings. Had my hyd hose guy crimp the ends. One power wire, one ground wire was it. Super simple, would freeze guys out of the cab on 100 degree day, was very happy with them.
