Subject: 12.9 Iveco Engine Problem

NCMT
Hello guys, I have a 2011 case ih steiger with a 12.9 iveco. So I stopped for dinner one day and left my tractor running, and when I came back engine temp had gone up to 210 degrees. I throttled it up a bit and let it cool off figured radiator was dusty, since I had been seeding in very dusty conditions. So I blew it out and cleaned it up. Went back seeding and finished day off with no more problems. Also checked coolant in overflow, was at appropriate level. So the next day I started tractor, let it warm up and seeded maybe 200 feet and temp was on 220 and rising rapidly, before I knew it it was on 230 degrees and tractor shut itself down. There were 7 gal. of coolant missing, it didn't suck coolant out of recovery tank so I didn't notice there was coolant missing. I replaced radiator cap and that fixed that issue. I noticed water pump leaking, replaced water pump and figured all that coolant had gone out on water pump weep hole and I hadn't noticed. So I did oil change and sent of oil sample and it showed alot of water, copper, & lead in oil, even though i checked oil level every day I didn't notice any difference at all. I've been seeding a couple off days now and so far I've had to add 4 gallons of coolant without any visible leaks or changes in oil level. Any idea what could be causing this....... what's your thoughts ?

Unscrew the eng oil filler cap. Any white cream on it? I have seen def tank fill up with coolant or cab heater core drip it out with A/C water. Have changed sleeve orings on 2 of them.

You could pull the eng crank breather filter out make sure there no white grease there. Or ussually u seen whit grease long before u see any come out drain plug cause it steams off as it comes in on slow leak. Head gasket leak would be pushing it into ur overflow tank.

I'll check that out, after I'm done seeding. Until then I'll keep adding coolant. I appreciate your help, I'll let U no what I find.

So I called my case dealer and they cant seem to find a rebuild kit for this motor. I could order all the parts I need seperately, but they don't seem to sell a kit. Did U buy a kit or did U order everything seperately. I'm sure buying everything seperately is more expensive than a kit would be.

Good luck with your endeavor. I've been told every Iveco engine is blueprinted, every rod and main bearing plasti-gauged for exact clearance.

Just got parts individual as for bearings we always go with the green 1s there are 6 different color codes so this is the 1s we use and never had issues yet. When ordering mains don't order 7 as the are sold as a set of 7 not as a pair like the rods !! Supposedly they are mix matched color to fit the block perfectly per each bearing .... difference in thickness is not measurable on a normal mechanics caliber so pick a color an go is how we roll !! If u find good aftermarket source let me know !!
