Looking at a clean 92 model White GMC with a Detroit 11.1 set at 360 hp, any problems with that engine ?

Really nice corrosion free southern truck, but I dont know that engine. Tell me the good and bad of the 11.1 from the early 90's.
The truck is geared almost identical to my other truck with a 315 hp 855 Cummins, will the little Detroit produce enough idle torque to start / move a loaded truck in the field like an 855 Cummins ?
TIA

Fairfax - Hell in winter, good the other 3 months
I've got a '93 Volvo with an 11l and a 9sp.  The truck had a bijillion miles b4 I got it and everything seems to work fine.  The plate on the engine says 365 and handles a load fine.  There was some rusting issues under the floor but some light gauge sheet metal and pop rivets and no more issues.

Jon, Steve Hausauer from McClusky has a truck identical to what you described you could maybe give him a call and he could tell you more, from what I know they are good. Terry

Our mechanics think they are good motors. Have one in a 97 Volvo with a 10spd. 315 turned to 365. Get along great in the field or on the road. It is not even geared super low. Good fuel mileage. Electrolosis got mine. Wasn't that expensive to overhaul. I would own another.

We had one like you describe, 11.1, 9sp, air ride. The 11.1 assometer seems weak, but we had a 11.1 at 350 leave the farm in front of a M-11 at 330. The M-11 assometer felt strong, but the weah feeling 11.1 eased awayfrom it, both trucks at 88,000.

Kentucky
Sounds like the 60 Series Detroit ........... we have one in a '90 model Volvo with 9 speed tranny and 330 hp.  When we bought it in 1995, a friend who runs a local trucking company said it was there favorite engine in that size at that time.  The 60 Series Detroit were the most reliable in his fleet of trucks.  He raved about their performance and advised we buy the truck.  14 years later, I have not had any engine issues.  One thing to remember ....... they don't like for these engines to idle too long without using the high idle.

I've only had to change oil since I got it. I think it has enough power but probably not like the big boys with 500 HP. That would be more important in hill country, mines flat lands. I think the 11.1L is the same engine as the 12.7L just smaller bore, stroke. I have plenty of power coming out of the fields.

Yes I do, and my names not Shirley. ( I love that line from the movie "Airplane". LOL )

Drove it home today, seems to be in great shape.
Should be a good partner for my little international.

Nice truck, and I'll guarantee you it will ride better and turn shorter than your binder.
