north-central Indiana west of Fulton | Looks like they were made ‘68-74. I know nothing about snow mobiles , and have ridden one only one time. They got popular when we had bad snow years in ‘78 to early 80s but don’t have that good of snow conditions where you can run on roads….. which is fine with me. My nephew has had this MF Ski Whiz in the barn for sometime. It has not run in decades though. He has it all apart in the shop. I don’t expect it to be operational this winter either! Had a pair but only one ever ran. I remember the SST sticker on fuel tank. Seem to remember one was a Lloyd's engine but don't recall what the other one was. Remember dad saying they were different engines and so couldn't swap parts around. Sled was a 1/4 mile sled - don't go more than 1/4 mile from farm because that is as far as I wanted to walk home when it quit.

southern MN | My first snowmobile in the 70s. Used it wouldn’t start. I don’t blame the brand, just wasn’t a well tuned new machine. Starter pull rope frame cracked and fell off. Probably from trying so hard to start it. I think it was only around a year. I kinda liked the looks of it. At Pioneer Power show in LeSuer there is often a display of a handful of them. Massey actually made the original ski whiz, until '74, then contracted with Scorpion until '77.

Brings back many memories. Spent late December 1968 till April 1969 at Great Lakes in USN Engineman “A “ School. Spent most all free time with a farm family that lived on Sand Lake road in Lake Villa area. They had a year old or so Ski-Doo sled and they bought a new Ski Whiz in early January 1969. Purchased from a local Massey Ferguson dealer, Peterson, if I remember correctly. Was a cold winter with lots of snow and lake ice to ride on. Took a different level of winter clothing to enjoy riding for very long in the cold. Had been in boot camp in Orlando, Fl. from October till Christmas of 1968. Remember was like going from warm stove to deep freezer for weather. GOOD TIMES!

Two machines tied together side by side for some reason. I don't think it was a factory job.

NE MT | Had one in about 1976. Dealer had several new ones left over from previous years. It must have been a 1974, last year of production I think, The hood was black, not red.

Father had one, back in the early 70's. It seemed like a good machine and they used it to tow a old car hood with sap buckets on it, to tap the trees. It had, power.

Malta, Illinois | Had a 1973 400 narrow track and a 1974 444 wide track. The 444 rode like a Cadillac but was heavy and not real fast. The 400 narrow track was a real sob to get started but it would flat out haul the mail. It would leave the 444 behind. They weren’t great sleds but we had a lot of fun on them.

Southeast Washington | Tim in WI - 1/12/2024 13:44 rancherman - 1/11/2024 13:37 Massey actually made the original ski whiz, until '74, then contracted with Scorpion until '77. Very soon there will only be 3 brands. Yamaha has announced that they are getting out. There is also Lynx. Also for the mountain area there are several manufacturers making snowbike kits to enjoy the mountains in a way that isn't possible by snowmobile. There are also track kits for ATV's and SxS's. Although there may be a reduced number of snowmobile manufacturers, there are more options available to ride on the snow than there has been in a long time.

NE Neb | I have a 500sst, a 440, and a Chinook. Finally got some snow had the 500 going but the engine has been tired for awhile and seems to have lost enough compression that it won't start. Been tooling on the 440 but just when I got gas to the carb I lost spark. One more project I didn't need. Lol!

NorthWest Indiana | Got the one dad bought new from local MF dealer in Knox, Indiana, Ray Downs MF Equipment. Running son of a gun until John Deere came out with the Liqua Fire 440. Could keep up if JD broke the trail and I followed. Hasn't run in decades. Rolled it once, broke windshield off of it, ordered new one through Ray and he delivered it to my dad's service station!

MN | First was one here was a Johnson Ski horse then it was a Evinrude Bobcat, Snowjet whisper jet, Kawasaki Intruder, current rig is a Bearcat 660 four stroke. Between my old friends and I we’ve pretty much rode most of the old forgotten brands or with them. My youngest collects old none running Ski Doos mostly, and fixes them and other things on his tube channel, there stuff packed in the old shed eye level.lol.
