Looking at getting a side by side and was quoted almost $2k to have a factory cab heater installed at the dealer. Another dealer told me you can buy aftermarket Inferno brand heaters, but you won't be happy with one. They cost $430 and I would install it myself.
So I am wondering who would be happier, my dealer who sells one for 2K or me with aftermarket?

Just installed a aftermarket heater from superatv.com. on my can am defender. Was fairly easy to install and was plumbed in to the factory radiator hoses. Seems to kick out some heat but haven't used the side by side on a really cold day. But was happy with the product.

Dealer installed a after market inferno heater on my Ranger when I bought it new. So far I seems like it kicks out heat as good as my pickup.

Just put an inferno heater in my ranger cost was little over $400 for the heater and took a couple hours to install. Has a two speed option and plumbed into existing radiator lines. Hasn’t been super cold but easily keeps you warm at 26 degrees. Only problem is see it’s either heat or no heat.

In fairness your dealer does not sell it for $2k, that includes installation, but what is the cost of the unit for YOU to install?
Some of these things cost less than the labour to install them.

I put an inferno heater in my crew ranger and in my dads regular cab. Both just have soft doors that seal up ok but not air tight by any means.

In the regular cab the heat will run you out of there on high down into the low 20’s. Have to crack a window or turn the heat on low.

In my crew, outside temps in the low 20’s it keeps it pretty warm. And I’m talking about running down the road 50+ mph. Cruising around through the field and slower temps heat on high is too much.

I highly suggest them.

Have heard good things about Diesel Air Heaters.
https://hondasxs.com/threads/diesel-air-heater-for-p500.12124/
.
Side note:
IF you decide to get a Honda Pioneer 1000.
- No belt, 13 gears(6 high, 6 low, 1 reverse)
Do not let the dealer install any heater under the driver seat.
The computer is under there, and it will eventually cause problems.
Notice, I did not say "may", I said "WILL" cause problems.
The computer can not handle the heat/cold/heat/cold cycles.
.
"But, but, the dealer says they put them there all the time."
Yep, they sure do.
And, it works great until it doesn't.
And then you pay for the troubleshooting when weird shi.....Stuff starts happening.
Have read to many threads about it.
.
And yes, we are very happy with our "Wild Blue", Honda Pioneer 1000-3.

How creative do you want to be? Go look at heater cores on summit racing website and pick one and vents up for $200 or less. Plumbing in can be a trick, I fit one on to my mule, had to get a little creative to get the fittings to tap into coolant. I didn't like the placements on the inferno heaters and the factory options were expensive, but I did like the looks of the curtis cab factor accessories heater option.

I don’t know what UTV you are looking at, but add up all the accessories you would want like front and rear windshields, doors and a heater.

Then look at what model comes equipped in that fashion. Sometimes all of the pieces are more costly than ordering a higher trim level of machine.

We went with a Can Am Defender limited after pricing everything out. Also it was considered than all of those extras are covered by a factory warranty.

I spent a lot of hours doing exactly this.   Was going to buy a basic machine, put hard doors on it, and put in an Inferno heater- would have done ALL of the installation work myself.  I could not get within 10% of the price of the Limited that's currently in my shed, and that doesn't include the fact that a 2023 Limited came with bigger stock tires, more suspension lift, etc.

I just wanted to be warm, I didn't care in the least bit about air conditioning.  But guess what- when we don't have a rain for weeks and I meet a rock truck or feed truck or whatever other semi on dusty gravel roads, it sure is nice to not eat it.

The monies are stupid.   I'm almost embarrassed.  But if you want a UTV that you will actually USE, then it's worth it.   Got mine last week of March and it has over 4,000 miles.

Same here, was going to get a basic ranger 1000 and add windshield, rear glass and doors. Bought a 1000xp premium for not much more and got heat, air, and much nicer doors than I would have added. Supposed to get it this week.

When we researched it we figured the top of the line doors, windshield and all of that. The ground clearance is also important for us simply to check crops or soil sampling in standing corn stalks. Either way it is stupid expensive.

Got ours around July and love it. When researching last spring your comments were a big influence on the decision to purchase a can am. Mostly for the leg room as I am 6”3 and my son about the same. Thank you.

I understand utv's have a place and I'd sure like one. But it's kinda funny that you could buy 2 used pickups for the price of some of these new side by sides. And not have to put a heater in it.

Sure.   And some of us that actually use UTVs that WORK to earn their keep do a lot of stuff with them that pickups won't do.  And don't have a convenient dump bed.

FWIW, my daily driver pickup is a 2009 model with 227,000 miles.  But I have a new side by side.  That 6.0 Chevy does have a hellacious heater built in though, you'll definitely stay warm in that pickup while waiting for somebody to bring a tractor and pull you out....

Completely understand. I'm more disgruntled with the cost of utvs than being critical of their owners. I don't know anyone that would give theirs up.

Oh, I hate the price tag.  And I rarely buy brand-new equipment.   Trouble with these, especially during the Covid insanity, is that you couldn't touch a used one without paying 90-95% the cost of new, and then a large percentage of those were accessorized in ways that I don't want for a farm machine.

We love ours and drive it a lot. Full factory cab is the only way to go if you are buying new. We have friends we ride with a lot also.
