Doing some research on these Air Max Precision2 dry air flow box machines, everyone says the same thing that maintenance cost is high. We are just looking for a farm machine, few thousand acres a year so nothing crazy so I don't see why a used machine like this wouldn't be sufficient. New spreader boxes are far from cheap. I know some like spreaders and others like the air machines, to each their own. They both will obviously do a good job when ran correctly. I see used machines sell for next to nothing, what is considered a lot of hours on these machines, 3000, 5000, 10000? Before your looking at things being very worn out? What are the parts to watch & check on these machines for wear/needing replacement? Any other general information to know about them would be appreciated TIA

SEMN | Precision 2 is what you want. Hyd drive gearboxes instead of the air clutches on an older air max. What’s land scape like? Autoboom can get speedy if you need a node at some point. Like most things in life it all depends on the maintenance or lack of before. Product fan, coolers and housing can be high wear especially if unit didn’t have pre cleaners installed. Coolers are doing two jobs cooling oil and filtering the sand/ dirt/ debris before entering product fan. Product fan fins are nylon and will wear and need to be replaced as a complete assembly. Fan housing wears due to the above but can be patched relatively easy by welding. Boom hinges should have grease fittings on top and bottom. That helped cure some of the seizing issues. Helps grease get around entire pin. Tough life for a terra gator needs to run non stop all spring then comes to a grinding halt til fall unless you’re spreading hay ground. Found hammer paste grease or greasing all fittings while someone unfolds and folds after washing and before long term storage helps prevent seizing. Hoses, if a guy spends time and wraps product fan hoses they don’t wear into each other. Boom motion hoses replace as needed . What chassis you looking at? Agco is leader in application equipment for a reason.

thanks for the info, I spoke with the owner of this one today, sounds like it's had a decent life. Coop machine but has seen maintenance. It's a 3 wheel terra gator with an airmax 2 box on it. Our terrain is what I would call gentle roll, boom height control would be nice but at 70ft far from necessary. The price that most of these machines sell for would be a 1 year payback just in application. Not to mention being able to shop around for fertilizer.

SEMN | Good deal, can always reach out for more info. What model you looking at? If you pull the trigger, I have some helpful things a guy can do to help prevent issues. Edited by SilverSeeder 12/13/2023 14:34
