I have a Freightliner with a Cummins M11 that it looks like the ECM is bad on it. I see a number of different places online that will repair the ECM for around $500. Does anyone have anywhere they recommend? Of course I need to get this truck going again ASAP, so that's kinda a bummer, but it is what it is.

Thanks!

Midwest ecm. Having said that are you sure is your ecm? I thought mine was bad and it turned out to be a bad oil pressure sending unit.

Only place I would trust is Cummins. Lots of horror stories out there. From price jumping up a bunch, to not working/lasting. Not to say there are not good places.

You may have checked already but my M11 in my semi has fuses for ecm located near and around wire loom near Solenoid on starter area.

Hard to see and find somewhat if area is dirty. Loom for 5 amp ground circuut is just above and around mounting bolts for starter.

2 in line 10 amp, ATO type blade fuse holders. Power comes from solenoid battery hot terminal

Mine were blown one time, it would crank but not start.

Jus thought I'd mention, if it may be something simple.

So this is the second time this year I've had this issue where the truck would crank but not start. The previous time was this spring and it was one of the fuses you described had blown. Unfortunately this time its not one of those fuses. Its giving me a different error message on the display, I've attached a photo. For some time now this truck has acted very funky. When you turn on the key several amber warning lights come on and then go out. If they come on and stay on, or don't come on at all, the truck won't start and you have to disconnect the battery, connect it back up again, and then it will start.

The short answer is I'm not sure its the ECM, but that's the best I have to go with right now. I had our local Case dealer come out and look at it since they have the computer to read the codes on it. Bad ECM was their diagnosis, so replacing the ECM is the best idea I have so far.

I just went through this on my cummins. All celect/celect plus engines need good clean power and more importantly grounds. So check and clean all your battery cable connections at the batteries, starter, and alternator, and possibly replace your cables. Secondly make sure your fuel shutoff solenoid has a constant 12v while cranking. If it doesn't its more than likely your starter is drawing to much and is bad resulting in a crank but no start. Also make sure your ecm is powered directly from the batteries and not still piggybacked off the starter.

These guys in Illinois are good, have test engines to put your ECM on to test as well. Have had 3-4 done the last few years.

Midwest swapped mine out and programmed the replacement to my specs.  Zero complaints and got it quick.
