I need a 25 foot with big ramps dual tires. Big Tex, Diamond C, PJ, Lamar , etc? I occasionally haul equipment locally , and a lot of small bales of hay usually 200-250 small bales at a time. Any recommendations?

I had to weld on our Big Tex within the first couple months of new. It pulls great but I’m not in love with it.

PJ is likely going to replace it .

Can’t say who the best is, but if you want just plain good cross PJ off the list. Had PJ for 15 years constantly peeling paint from day one, fixing wiring. Traded for Load Trail 4 years ago with mega ramps couldn’t be happier, though believe there are better trailers but good enough for me. Both trailers are/were 32’ tandem duallys.

I suggest not getting anything powdercoated, virtually all trailers are built cheap as possible, wiring is usually a nightmare after a while, not sure anymore as have been out of trailer business for 20 yrs. Sometimes there are local outfits that build a quality trailer, but then price becomes an issue.

We were looking for another trailer also a couple months ago. We ended up ordering a new Eby. We are sick of dealing with rusty trailers so we went with an aluminum one this time. We will see how we like it but they look nice and well built.

East of Broken Bow
Locally, the two most common trailers are Titan and Kiefer (probably for dealer reasons more than any other). The Kiefers have about as good of wiring as I have seen on a trailer, all wiring is sheathed cable, not the flat wiring you often see, and all connections are made in junction boxes.
I got a Titan myself, the frame/deck seemed as good as any, and the only Kiefer I could find as far as flatbeds was more car hauler than anything, and they had a Titan like I was looking for on hand. Not sure if they make a farm flatbed utility trailer or not, to be honest, but the flatbed they had, as well as their stock trailers seem top notch.

I ordered a diamond c in early Feb. picked it up about a month ago. So far I like it, has the ramps like you’re looking for. At the suggestion of someone on agtalk, I researched the Hutchinson suspension and decided to go with that. Also put 17.5 tires on it so hopefully they last a little longer. Wiring seems good, nice looking harness.
2 things I don’t like, powder coat paint. Looks great now, not sure what it will look like in a few years. And starting at the beginning of the year, diamond c put the spare tire underneath it, between the frame rails. It was so new when I ordered it, they didn’t have pictures of what they were doing and it slipped past me. I fought and argued and pissed and moaned about it under there and got nowhere. Obviously them Texans don’t under stand what salt does to spare tires and the ability to get them out when needed. And to make it worse, my county chlorides all county gravel roads the whole length. And the roads are crushed rock. So always have chloride dust floating up into stuff.

I bought a Finish Line that was built in southern Iowa. Very good structurally but the powder coated paint was coming off before it was a year old. The warranty specifically excludes the paint job.

Our spare tire on our Diamond C is up on top the neck where everyone has put spares on GN trailers forever... 2 year old FMAX216

We've had Corn Pro, and Moritz, and my Uncle has had a PJ and a Load Trail. We liked the Corn Pro, just couldn't get to 40' with the capacity we wanted, so we had to switch...same with Moritz. We waited a year on them to build us the "new" trailer they were coming out with, and then they decided not to do it.

The Diamond C is the BEST GN trailer we've ever owned. 40', Hydraulic Tail, Hutchison Suspension, Electric/Hydraulic Disc brakes, 17.5 rubber, hydraulic jacks. It's HEAVY, but it pulls nice, and we haven't even strained it in 2 years. We don't cut it much slack either. Not cheap, but so far it's holding up better than the last couple Corn Pro's we had. They weren't bad, don't get me wrong, but we treat our GN like a semi trailer somedays (most days at times). If we can't get a semi into a farm, we'll put this trailer on our S/A T800 Kenworth and load a 200hp tractor on it and not think twice about it.

Loads like this coming home from an Antique show last fall...only 20 miles though:

I bought a Quality brand trailer about six or seven years ago. Really cheap. Close to half price of corn pro. So far it has been as good as I would’ve hoped from a more expensive brand. I’m not sure brand name or price is as important as features and how you plan to use it.

Yes, the spare tire change was the first of the year this year. When I complained, the companies dumb comment was “ that’s where every pickup spare tire is”. True, but where else are you going to put it on a pickup? Almost impossible to get a tire down from a 5-10 old truck around here.
You’ve got some good Looking Oliver’s.

Two things to look at the coupler and the lights and wiring. If not sealed wires and lights, run.

Bought a new 26’ tandem dual wheel Titan back in 2010. It has split ramps and a 6’ dove tail on it so when the ramps are folded flat makes it a 30’ deck. You can also set the ramps strait up and be able to load 2 tractors and still be able to unload with the ramps. Split ramps are pretty much a must have. Wiring had be good so far and all junctions are in a box. Paint has been good and have only treated deck with linseed oil once but we store it inside. Will be looking for another Titan again when it’s time to upgrade

I mean, I see their thinking, especially on a 150lb 17.5" and 16 ply tire LOL

Is it just bolted in, or some goofy cable jack like a truck?

Its got a cable lift like a pickup.
The older models with the flatbed on the neck had a nice swing down tire holder, looked pretty slick to me but they refused to put it on for me. When i get time, im going to have to build my own tire rack in the neck.

We've had a Kiefer since 1994, its been a good trailer, just too small and light now. I would have looked at a kiefer again, but they don't build flatbeds anymore. A couple other brands I looked at, looked like they were engineered by me, "if in doubt add more iron"! Some looked so heavy I'm not sure my truck would legally pull it down the road empty.

I believe the company is MidSota, they do a trailer that is hot dipped galvanized. I like that idea. Prob other companies do it also. Eby aluminum looked nice, but at twice the price, i couldn't do it.

Have a PJ and it has been good structurally. The paint has been very poor and I would like to break it down and get it blasted and repainted to prevent the rust from ruining it. Just worked on the lights, surprisingly a new junction box and cord had it working good. This trailer is at least 15 years old and lives outside.

Unfortunately, they all seem to be power coating which stinks IMHO.

But I'd suggest electric over hydraulic brakes (which I have on my Big Tex) and electric/hydraulic jacks (which I don't have). And get mega-ramps.

You will love the EBY. The quality is awesome and they are light. Love my 40’ 25k. If you are going with a steel trailer I highly recommend corn pro. I have a 2006 model with over a hundred thousand miles on it with nothing but tires and brakes. Paint still looks almost new also.

I sell Load Trail so probably not unbiased. When I started I felt like Load Trail was a good value trailer. I have been treated well by them with any issues that have come up.

We skipped over the goose neck and went with a step deck semi trailer.

22.5 tires, air brakes, air ride and pulling it with a truck made to tow the load you will eventually have on the trailer.

Ours is a Neville and we have yet to regret the decision.

I think that's a solid plan. I have a Brooks Brothers trailer and I have a hitch to switch it over to kingpin and the trailer is rated for 35,000 GVWR. I keep thinking I should just find a cheaper single axle truck like that and hook it up and leave it hooked up. I think it would get used way more often. I am reluctant because I have 2 young kids who want to follow me around and ride with me so I couldn't take everyone with that setup. I still would not have the air ride like you have and my trailer is ROUGH to pull behind the pickup truck. I have added a shocker hitch and I'm not sure it has improved it much at all.

Bought a Delta last month. Looked at a bunch and thought it was a darn good trailer for the money. I also liked the fact that its not powder coated. Seems like everyone and their brother makes these things these days. Most use the same Dexter axles, same frame rails. deck boards, etc. Nice to be able to look at them side by side and you will see some small differences that might be important to you. There was a cheaper trailer(Titan I think) that I really liked that was very well priced, but didn't like the angle of the dovetail. Wasn't that impressed with the new Corn Pro that sat next to it, but it had been sitting for a year or 2. The higher end trailers have some notable improvements, but the lower to mid range trailers are pretty similar.
