ECIL | I have a few hydrants to replace. Is there anything better? Replacing cheap farm n fleet ones. Where is the best place to get them price wise?

Southern Illinois | Not cheap but they are what I will be using from here on out. Add a woodford hydrant to this and should be top notch. We get ours at Winnelson plumbing supply and our local lumber yard.

I realize they may not be NAT-approved in the I-States, but Merrill Anyflow are the only hydrants I'd consider burying in the ground.
FWIW, I'm guessing if there never would have been a cheapo C-1000 option, nobody anywhere would even question what brand was the best.
I did underground water work for 25 years. Probably dug up hundreds of Woodfords and threw them in the scrap pile. |

C IL | Hmmm |

| +1 Menards |

That's a great idea. I'll look into that when I need to replace a hydrant. Thanks for posting.

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I had a hydrant installed some years ago by the local well guys. They recommended and I agreed to go with the device shown above. Mine is pure white PVC and may be a different brand but the idea is the same.
The hydrant should have lasted longer than it did (some of the old Woodfords still work fine) but at least the device make the swap to a new one quite easy. |

northeastern Ohio | I bought several at Menards: https://www.menards.com/main/plumbing/valves/yard-hydrants/woodford-...
|
|
| |
|
North Central Kansas | I like the Merrill R6000 hydrants. They flow a lot more water than a woodford. |
|
| |
|
Central ND | How long have you been using them? These R-6000 have the same stupid rubber plug for a valve that the C-1000 has. Junk if they are used more than 6 times per year. |
|
| |
|
Central IL | Menards has them or if not in stock can order them.
Be sure to install with a hydrant assist kit from Seppmann enterprises. I learned about them from the agtalk crowd and will hopefully keep on from having to dig to replace a hyrdrant in the future. |

west central Iowa | We've got a Merrill that's been used every day for the last two years and working fine. |

56676 | x2 Merrill |

|
northeastern Ohio | Those Seppman kits look slick, but they are a little pricey. They would probably be worth it if installing a hydrant with concrete surrounding it: https://www.seppmannenterprises.com/
I prefer to backfill my hydrants installation with sand for easy digging. I've got some Woodfords that are 35 years old and still working fine. |

scmn | I would go Menards over Runnings: 1) Menards stocks the repair kit for them, at Runnings you have to order it and wait, 2) Menards stocks the 8ft bury and is cheaper than Runnings |

Southern Illinois | I've always wanted to put in some kind of underground system with a quarter turn valve or something and make it something that you disassembled for the winter time. These Frostproof hydrants aggravate the crap out of me as often as they go bad no more than I use them. |
|
| |
|
scmn | Curb stop valve is the commercial name for the ones used in cities and rural water districts.
What we did was to run a home run line from every drinker and hydrant back to the the house so I can shut off anything on the yard while keeping everything else active. The only downside is I have 13+ lines coming in thru the basement floor. |

Put a good hydrant in and you won't have trouble. |
