Subject: International 140 plows ?

I am thinking of purchasing some plows. A neighbor has IH 140 plows is good condition ? He has a 3 and a 4 bottom. My tractor is 120 hp 4x4. I was thinking Of getting the 4 bottom and if my tractor can’t pull it take the last plow section off? $1300 for either set. Opinions ?

120hp should easly handle a 4 bottom. Just a quick look at Tractorhouse, $1300 is about 1/3 of the asking price for a 140 4 bottom. I was going to post that sounded a bit high ($1300) but seems like a good deal now

East Central Arkansas
I don't know the model number of our IH plow that looks real similar to that 4 bottom. Ours has 16 inch bottoms and we used a old JD 4520 or a IH 1066.

Central Il Morton

Don’t know anything about a 140 plow but don’t plows in your area use coulters?
Looks like it has good clearance.

take care

I have nothing to add but man I wish we could get away with a plow without spring reset here. With our stones and boulders that plow would be in pieces before you even got to the back of the field.

Huntley Montana

The value is about right . they were good plows,  4 bottom will pull as easy as the 3.  You can make a 3 out of the 4, bit you can not make the 3 into a 4.

Only problem is they were not quick hitchable.

watched a lot of acres go through

Offer $2000 for both. Not sure about parts availability(?) In my part of the world, roll over plows are very rare

Western Nebraska
Excellent plows. Grew up using them. Good trash clearance.

Hp isn’t an issue but you’ll need weight. Our 6715 never has power issues but drop our 3/18 Massey in as deep as it’ll go and it’ll slip a lot. Course most people only plow 8-10” deep

You'll have no problem with the 4 bottom, unless your dry soils pull unbelievably hard and you insist on trying to plow too fast and too deep. I believe those are Super Chief bottoms so parts are readily available, even for the LH shares.

As someone above said, I'm also jealous that you can plow without trip bottoms!

If that tractor will not pull the 4 bottom, better be looking for a different tractor!
