Subject: Please help! CASE STX480

Hello to all, I have a case STX 480 I am having some trouble with,

The tractor starts and runs fine but when you go to put it in gear it says transmission FAULT. Every once in awhile it will go I to hear and operate as its suppose to.

I have replaced the FNRP switch with harness as well as the park brake pressure sensor and park brake solenoid with no success.

I am getting two codes . Number 51 and 59.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Take the single wire off of the new fnrp switch and check the wire for continuity to ground. You may also want to check the cab grounds, but I'm betting that you just switched to the new style switch and you are not getting a good ground on that extra pin.

Is there a neutral latch or park latch relay in fuse holder?

I don’t have a diagram for the fuse/relay box. I have been looking for one online but haven’t came across one yet.

The only single wire I found is under the floor plate at the base of the column, the 3 plugs that came from the FNRP switch all had multiple wires coming out of them. Two with 8-10 wires each and one plug with 2 wires.

At this point I’m starting to wonder if the new FNRP switch is a bad part? I got on the tractor yesterday after putting new batteries on and it started and drove fine, after letting it run 30 minutes I got back in it and it gave me the transmission fault again and hasn’t moved since.

The FNRP switch itself should have two plugs molded directly into the body. One has 8 wires, the other only has 1.

51 is in park when forward or reverse is selected.

The not park signal activates the park release relay.
The signal from the park sensor sends a response to the transmission controller.

59 is FNRP in illogical position, usually set if the lever is held in the up position a bit too long.

There is a harness down on the transmission, and a metal cover protecting the wires and the sensor or solenoids. Mine had the wires rub there and shorted out on the cover.

I was getting the fault, but don’t remember codes.

I found the harness and the cover, it was rubbing on the cover but not through. I zip tied them back away from the cover.

Is this intermittent? I had a loose transmission fuse.

Yes, every once in awhile you can get it to go as it should. But not very often
