Not possible, or to be efficient anyway.

U will need a balancer pellet in there as the ddg are high in sulfur just ask tc806 what can happen if you don’t

The best bet would be if you have a nutritionist close by have them work you up some rations with what you have available. If he’s a feed company guy he’ll try to sell a product of theirs to you, but if he’s worth his salt he’ll work up some rations sans the company products.

even your local land grant university will have some trials and recommendations.

Soooo…..are you feeding a 1 size fits all ration now, without ddg, or is this a new startup?

Probably need to wander out deeper into the pool a bit…..

Who woulda thunk it….just throw some feed in front of an animal and they eat it****

Used to put some 5wt+ holstein steers in a friend's pasture over summer. If I recall the ration was 1500# rolled corn,400# of ddg and 100# of balancer pellets to make a ton.

There are big differences (or traditionally has) between wet or modified ddgs and dry ddgs. The wet stuff typically has the higher sulfur content and a little more fat than the dry ddgs.

You absolutely need to get the “guaranteed analysis” tag from the plant so you know what you are using. The flint Hills plant locally (now POET) produced dry ddgs that was around 24% crude protein. —- if I run through your 50/50 ratio plan, I believe that would be a 16% crude protein “mix”. You will overfeed protein to cows (just a waste of money) but wouldn’t underfeed protein to calves. I would watch the “fines” from grinding and mixing. A rumensin copack would be a good addition also in this mix

No free lunch with a 1 size mix for all

Just a dumb question:

Could he make one feed that matches the finishing steers; then feed free choice low quality hay or grass and supplement the cows; and feed high quality hay and a little of this supplement to his backgrounding steers?

Just searching for another strategy.

We have been feeding a straight ground corn just to add something these are mainly grass fed animals summer pasture and winter over on baleage and some dry hay as of right now there is 26 broad cows a bull 7 yearlings and 16 calves I am not looking to be a grain fed operation just give mainly the calves and yearlings a kick in the ass get em started right and as of now all in same pasture and barn but do have a calf pen set up with creep gates in barn main thing is minerals need to add I have been running a hundred pounds to a ton and they have still been hitting the mineral block pretty hard I got a 50# of salt and 100# of a mineral mix which is about 4% phosphorus now I believe should add at least fifty pounds of calcium to balance out guess I did not say either we only feed a gallon to gallon and a half per head but calves I keep enough in there that it’s never cleaned up but not to much left over daily either
