NW IN | Trying to come up with a plan for a pasture. What's the current cost where you are for various types of cattle fencing and the pros and cons of each in your area?
I have an idea of what I want to do, but sometimes we miss the forest for the trees with preconceived notions. Don't want my bias to push me in the wrong direction. |

VA | Hired work woven wire running about 4 bucks 6 strands barb wire none hot running about 3.25 |
North Iowa | 5 barb plus one high tensile for hot wire. Wood every third post ran me about $2.25-$2.50 a foot. |
Ne Nebraska | All wood, 4 barbed, posts rod apart figure $10,000 a mile all said and done. |
west central Iowa | Kencove says under .22/ foot for 6 hi tensile wires with everything but posts and labor. Both posts and labor will be lower than other alternatives, because less posts are needed. |
South Texas | Triple corners, 4 steels and then a wood, 12’ spacing, 6 strand gaucho. Just under $2/ft, not including dozer work. I act as the contractor, buy the material and pay the labor then deal with getting the money out of a bunch of land owners, otherwise if the fence guys have to deal with all that bs they’re about $3. I build cross fence myself it uses free telephone pole corners, all steel posts beat 2.5’ in the ground, 20’ space with one stay, 5 wire gaucho. About 40c/ft no labor and it goes up quick not having any wood line posts and the long space. |

Driftless SW Wisconsin | Generally around here labor is about 1.25/ft + materials for most terrain from fencing contractors. Not including any dozer or unusual work such as tree clearing etc. edit to add: 5 wire, 4 red brand barb, center wire smooth HT on insulators. 5 steel T posts between 6" wood posts. All posts 10 ft apart. Wood posts have a sack of concrete per hole

| steel pipe H brace corners, 4 tpost to one 2-3/8 pipe post, 6 barbed wire right at three dollars per foot. |

Clay county, MN | Are these all for hiring done? Seem awful high. |

S KY | 1348-12 fixed knot with a 14 gauge HT barb over top on 2-1/2" galv pipe line posts 16' on center with 4" welded braces........Around $4.50/ft.
842-12 fixed knot with a hot wire on top with the same posts, but with 25' spacing........Around $3.50/ft.
Good wood posts cost the same. Cheap wood posts only save money until you have to rebuild it in a few years. Steel and wood are both going up at a rapid pace, so I'd look for contractors to raise labor rates to match. Just a year ago, we were about $.75/ft cheaper on average than we are today.
The pros for fixed knot woven are cost efficiency if you stretch it tight and space line posts out, ease of installation, longevity. The cons....If you are really into tracking down a short in your hot wire, you won't get to do it anymore.
