west central ohio | Ok, im considering doing a pretty thorough in-frame over haul on a IH 1086 . Who has the highest quality O.H Kit besides OEM? I would love to use cnh parts, but without even checking im willing to bet they are not even close to reasonable in price. Thanks in advance.

dubuque, ia | Had good luck with reliance kits. Never had a problem until a recent one where a head gasket on a 3.9 deere wanted to seep coolant externally ever so slightly- gasket never sealed to the head in that spot. Hopefully just coincidence and not the new norm for reliance stuff. |

![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=3880&type=profile&rnd=594) Texas/New Mexico Stateline | I did an in-frame in our 1086 several years back. I ordered Federal-Mogul/Sealed power kit from our local NAPA. Seems like it was about $1800.
I haven't had any trouble except it has always used a little oil when it didn't before. I don't know if I didn't get the rings seated good during break-in or what. It is not excessive, but it will use about a gallon in 100 hours. Before, it wouldn't use any between oil changes.
We had to overhaul it due to cavitation on the sleeves.

Eastern Iowa | I used a Reliance kit for a 404 JD, I did a thorough job and also put in a cam and lifter kit from Reliance. I was very disappointed to learn I was sent a defective camshaft and would have to remove and reinstall a different one. I got the impression that Reliance knew approximately 33 percent of the cams would not work and it would be easier for Reliance to deal with the defect after the cam was installed and found to be bad than to get ahead of the problem before they were installed. The oil pump drive gear was ground without regard to engine timing, oil pump drives injection pump. Reliance replaced the cam and gave me $300 for my trouble. A Reliance overhaul kit is only as good as the components they buy from a low cost provider and providers likely to change whenever Reliance chooses. I guess it's a crap shoot. |

Upstate Ny | Reliance has had problems since they merged 3-4 co.panies into one. Hy Capacity dropped Reliance kits and switched to Maxi force. |

kirby,Ohio | i am sold on Reliance kits. i have used them in a 3020, 4020, 4440 and a 4840 john deere. The engine shop talk me in to putting a Reliance Hyperformance kit in my 4440 and it starts way better and has more horsepower. |
