western iowa,by Denison | overwhelm with white peachs, think around 10 bushel so far-safe to dump to cattle?
Question-My Mom grew these from the pit-we have tried several times and no luck-is there a secret to grow them? Mom has been gone for some years and I didn't have the heart to cut the trees down but they are starting to push the brick retaining wall out-then as a kid we seldom had a big peach or lots of them-maybe once out of 7 years-this is the third year in a row-with the peach's being very large this year-they are a white peach and tasty!

| Havent been able to buy a decent peach in 10 years at a grocery store. ALL cardboard peaches that never ripen. Only peaches worth eating came from some Lions Club or FFA fundraiser and delivered fresh from Colorado direct. |

|
| How are these in peach pie or peach cobbler?
Maybe you need to cook you up a freezer or two full ,,, as a hedge on cattle profits this upcoming year**** |

Treynor IA | We've got 6 cattle and fed them all the bruised peaches that fell on the ground. Never had any problems. They spit the seed out like a cow eating an ear of corn in the field. |

Peaches sprout very easy. Toss a few spoiled ones on the compost heap, and you'll have more seedlings than you can shake a stick at. Dig up the seedlings and replant them where you want them.
Peaches will not come true if you're growing from seed. You have to graft something you like on top. Peaches are supposed to be one of the easier fruits to graft. My dad's done quite a few. |

Trenton, Missouri | I was under the impression you couldn't use seed from grated trees. We have some really old peach trees that we gathered some pits from and planned on planting them. Do you mean that all peach trees will need to be grafted to produce good fruit? Or are there some old varieties that could produce without being grafted? |

northwest tennessee | Eat them yourself but stop if you start seeing a wet butt. |

|
SWMN | Neighbor dumped half a loader bucket of windfall apples over the pasture fence, several dairy heifers aborted. Vet says an apple a day will keep the doctor away but a whole bucket full and the doctor you will pay. Proceed with caution. |

|
Madison Co. Virginia | Any seed will grow, and any seedling might be good. But to be sure you get something good, you have to graft. A good peach will very seldom come true in seed.
Some trees can be rooted. If you can coax a twig from a good tree to root, it will be exactly the same as the original. I'm not sure how well peach roots, though. |

NW Central Ohio | ...no kidding, I got bent over by a local orchard this summer too. I guess when the peach crop only survives about one year in 4 they get pretty valuable!!!..LOL!

NW Central Ohio | ..the pit's really not that large compared to a cow. A smaller calf might have an issue. |

|
NW Central Ohio | I'm surprised the peaches haven't broken all the branches on those trees. It doesn't look like they've been pruned at all. They can actually put so many peaches on, the weight will tear the tree apart. |
