Subject: disposal of fuel storage tanks

We have two furnace oil tanks, a farm diesel tank and a farm gas tank that leak, went through a tornado, or are obsolete. The local scrap yard will only take them if they are cut in two and have no fuel oder to them. How do we do this or what other things can we do?

TIA

This is what i do. Find a big brush pile and put them on top of it. Light it and let it burn them out. Has worked good so far. I normally take backhoe and poke couple holes in them to.

That's what I've done too. Burn them in a brush pile and then cut them up.

My plan also. Fire will burn out all the fumes. Then safe to cut up.

Make shop stoves out of them. Use them, give them to valued employees, save them for the next stove you need, sell them on Craigs List

They are too valuable to crush. Where will you find another when you need it???

If they arent all dented up and if they are resonably clean inside, guys will by them to make bbq smokers. Or wood stoves. Throw them on craigslist i bet you can get well over scrap $.

Have a 500 and a 1000 gallon tank cut in half for metal dumpsters. Also use them to throw split firewood into. Got a 1000 gallon anhydrous tank sitting here for about 15 years I need to find a use for.

Use them for a trash burn barrel. Cut the ends out. Put a few vent holes in the side to burn better

I'll second craigslist, got rid of 4 old 500 gallon pinholed fuel tanks last year on there. Gone in 2 days at 50$ each. Guys begging me to check my scrap pile and woods for more of them. One guy drove 120 miles from his place to get one.
