Subject: Threading and tapping a plastic spray tank

I have a 20 gallon Fimco ATV sprayer that I use for fencelines etc. It work great except it will not empty out. There is nipple in the tank about an inch from the bottom that draws the spray for the pump. It usually leaves about 3 gallons in the tank which is difficult when switching chemicals.
Has anyone found a way to drill and tap a hole in the bottom and then mount a filter below? I think I have enough room below the ATV rack to mount the filter assembly.
Any Ideas?
I don't have access to a plastic welder.

If you have room for it, I would use one of these bottom drain fittings.

They work very well and let every drop drain out.

Thanks for the info. Do you just drill a hole and bolt on half in the inside and the other half on the bottom?

I have drilled and tapped poly tanks.
Can you reach in from top? Stick a properly shaped tube into present suction port and suck tank more empty?

Yes, plus 4 smaller holes for the bolts.

Some of the tank bulkhead fittings are threaded on the inside too, screw an elbow into it.

Yes there is about a 4" diameter fill port about 14" above the inlet

These bottom drain fittings can be expensive. Would also have to be carefull while handling or storing the sprayer to not break a fitting and cause a spill. For a small sprayer like that I would use a hose instead of a suction tube and make it long enough to lay down on the bottom of the tank.

I put a 2x4 under the tank to tip it towards the outlet. Very little left when it quits drawing. Maybe too simple a solution, but works for me.

I tapped a hole on each side of my atv sprayer and threaded in fittings and cut them off flush inside the tank. Y'd the fittings low and behind near my boom and now get almost 100% cleanout leaning either way.

I thought of doing just what your wanting, but found typically when running around the rear of tank is bit higher then the front nearing end of tank anyway. I run the left side up on some 6x6's and drain into 2.5 gallon then just rinse with water on shed lot. Run some water through the hose and call it good. I sprayed some Fierce XLT, 24D, earlier around bins and yard. Took me couple rinses but got it all out and tried on few beans and corn. After just one rinse it set beans back and flat out killed corn. After three couldn't hardly tell. That was just some ammonia and dawn, Fierce is pretty hot for sticking in booms otherwise just few rinses with garden hose i call it good. My drain hangs off little more tho.

Like you say if you don't drain it carry over is pretty bad, just doesn't clean out well enough. What is that mounted on top of pump? I put the 3.8 gpm pump on ours to get better flow but just have wand. I use it for everything, have a pull type yard sprayer but would be nice have boom or something on back for little cleanup work.

I was thinking about doing the same thing as you did. I was worried the tank was too thin to properly tap threads. What fitting did you use?

Nice looking set-up

It is a manifold, one outlet for the wand, 1 for the boom ( sometimes I mount a 4 nozzle boom for small projects) and 1 for agitation.
