Subject: Home made hydraulic tongue jack?

Chebanse, IL.....

Some implements have terribly heavy tongue weights & are hard to jack even with a newer "bulldog" styly crank jack. Of the hydraulic hoses & electrical cords hanging in the way can make spinning the jack handle difficult. We have an Unverferth grain cart with a hydraulic jack on it that's just a dream to unhook & raise up/down. Pretty simple.

We have a JD 2510H 23 row applicator that came with a side-crank bulldog style jack. It's terribly hard to lift/adjust.

Has anyone built a hydraulic jack of some sorts that lifts heavy tongues & plugs into tractor outlets? If so...photos? I've googled & don't see any commercially built products. There are some that sell a self-contained electric pump, etc, but I don't see just a simple cylinder extendable type.

Suggestions?

Thanks

I have no picture but I worked for a neighbor in college and we took a regular 3 by 8 cylinder welded a piece of 3/8"s inch plate to the side. Actually welded the plate to the bolts that hold the cylinder together. Then welded a piece of pipe to that for the receiver piece of the jack. It went on just like a normal jack and could be used in any implement. Made a pad out of some heavy metal that bolted threw the bottom of the cylinder it could pivot on that if not on a completely level surface.

Might look into some of the electric type ones ?

https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Jack-pc-Electric_Jack.aspx?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Search%20-%20Trailer%20Jack&utm_term=electric%20trailer%20jack&utm_content=Electric

Don't see any of the side wind bulldog types that are electric and I don't see any that are made to be pivoted horizontally most are for trailer a frames but there are some 5th wheel types that might be made to work ?

Oil the working parts inside of the jack.

Not so easy to do on some, makes a world of difference when done.

What about the landing gear from a goose neck trailer? Seems hyd. jacks are pretty common on trailers with hyd. beaver tails.

I've seen hydraulic jacks on some Lemken products. Looked for a pic on their website but didn't find one.

I have one on a heavy strip till bar.

It is 2 pieces of square tubing with a cylinder mounted inside. I think the outside one is 7" and the inside one is 5 or 6 with some plates welded to it to shim it tight.

It works well.

Wilrich has also put one on there 10k toolbars. They used smaller tubing with the cylinder mounted to the outside.

Use the quick hitch and a small chain
I keep a 5-6' piece of small chain hanging on the cylinder hooks on the back of the cab at all times for jobs like this.

How about a leveling jack off a salvage RV. Some are hyd with a spring return and some have hyd return. Electric ones are usually on 5th wheel trailer.
hey have a plate on the side to bolt to the frame.

good luck

Quick hitch?  Cylinder hooks?

A quick hitch is that U shaped frame many tractors have on the 3pt to make hooking up to 3pt implements easier.

Cylinder hooks - back in the day when farms had one hydraulic cylinder to share between their implements, tractors had hooks on the back of the cab to store that cylinder. Tractors don't come with them anymore.

I have converted a couple of those drop legs-really nice. Weld on side permanently then jack all the way up to bottom of tongue when running in field.

Had a 1600 gallon sprayer that was a real bear-put that on and was piece of cake....

Texas

You can make a hydraulic jack out of a manual jack if it is a square tube style by taking the screw guts out and mounting a small cylinder inside of it on two pins.  I have also made jacks by simply using two square tubes that slide inside one another that are larger enough to fit a cylinder in the middle.

It doesn't have to be fancy with poly pads or such.  Just mount the cylinder and connect the hose to the remotes.

These are used a lot in Europe but you can possibly make your own. The hydr. ram has spring return though but a double ating cylinder would work too.
Pull one pin out and flip it up when machine is hooked up to tractor.

Guys I know what they are. But my Case 9270 has neither. My 966, 7210, and MX275 do not have cylinder hooks.  However my 966 does have a Fast-Hitch which makes hitching up a dream.
