| Just replaced 4 sets of brake shoes on drive axles. Shoes were rusted out (road salt). Dust shields also rusted out. I usually don't replace dust shields. Are they worth replacing ? 33 dollars per wheel.
Will they keep anything out or just help hold crap in the drum? |

Near-north Ontario, French River | Right or wrong most guys leave them off around here. If anything it makes inspecting brake shoes, springs easier which can be a good thing if you're a driver, or a bad thing if its a LEO who's looking. lol |

NE KS | If a rock does get in it can't get out, and it makes a horrible squawking noise. After that ordeal I cut the other 3 off the next day. |

Guys hauling gravel and aggregate will not use them. |

Morris, Mb. | We have ours off, but that is so its easier to beat on the drums when they decide to freeze up. Have never got a ticket, but been told by DOT they are supposed to be on. |

Liberty, MO | My trailer never had them when NEW. |

Deep southern Illinois | I was told it's a ticket if you're missing one shield, but not a ticket for none on the truck. None on the farm here, no issues. |

Yep, either all or none. None is my favorite number. Been DOT'ed too many times, and never got wrote up yet for not having them.
