Earlville, NY | We need a second well on our dairy, between plate cooler, drinking, sprinklers and washdown, the old well cant keep up when weather gets really warm I have an estimate for $8500 for a new 80' well. Current well is 40', shouldn't need to go much farther. This price includes pump system and complete installation of plumbing and electrical work, setting a screen in well bottom etc. Company has a reputation for being fast and doing good work, says they can do it in 3 days total and start it right away. Does this seem reasonable? Been a long time since we've had a well done. Thanks.

Would suggest that you consider a variable speed pump - - - more money up front but better supply AND reduced energy costs and that will pay off long term!!

northeastern Ohio | I paid $7800 for a well a couple years ago. 40' of casing, 140' deep, 1 hp pump, 1.25" pipe all the way to the bladder tank. I supplied the tank but they hooked everything up. They paid for the permit and inspection. They did it in one day. I think it was too much money, but it seems to be the going rate. But you need to watch them. This company tried to stick a 3/4 hp pump and 1" pipe into the well before I arrived. They had the pump wired up and the first joint of pipe on it when I got there. I took one look and called the boss. They didn't have my pump or pipe on the truck. They had to go back to the shop to get the right stuff. Buyer beware!

Northwest Missouri | I just drilled a 50 ft deep 18 inch casing well for $6500. Included nothing extra, just the well. Will be over 10k by the time I get it all hooked up, but I'm running 1000 ft of pipe and electrical also. Edited by Ben1912 7/16/2016 07:38

wc mn | Fall of 2013 did a new well, 100 deep, $7500 all said and done. This was a second well on the place, just a insurance policy so to speak, lots of cattle around I would hate to have well troubles.

candor ny | Well driller here quotes 10k a well but cost is between 5-10k for most over a hundred feet. But the pump in your well will cost three times what a home owners does so yes it sounds about right.

VA | My house went 360 ft deep cased 40 ft with the pump and 100 ft of lines to house and wire I have right at 5800 in it all 1 hp pump

Upper Midwest | What size well are you guys pricing? Everyone is talking depth, what diameter? I got to believe a 10 in would cost much more than a 4 in. A 10 in x 280 deep here was 20k ten years ago.

whitesville new york | Friend of mine said they were looking at 16k for everything, hole, pump, and plumbing. Not sure any details but it is a 500+ cow dairy. We're thinking we're going to end up around 3500 for a 6 inch well about 150 deep.

Pine City, MN | I'm very jealous you can go so shallow. We have 4 wells between 300-450 ft and still struggle with enough water. Like a couple others said go with a variable speed pump.

west central iowa | I dug a deep well here in western iowa the summer of 2013. to just dig the well was 17,000 dollars, the pump and pipe was $3500 and to put in new well pit ,pressure tank, and water valves and connections in was an addition $5,000. my well is 375 ft. deep. the pump is hanging about 290 ft. Its a good vein with a lot of water.

Northwest Missouri | Why is the pump at 290 if the well is 375? I don't have any wells over 90 ft.

Alton, Ia | Ouch. I did a 480' well in 07 for $9600, then $7300 for a variable speed pump, controller and 125' of pipe and wire to the well.

Alton, Ia | Cheap. I was over $10,600 for a 40' deep 3 years ago.

wc MN | put in new well in 2014 233 ft. 4" casing 1 1/2 line with new pressure tank with 9 ft of stainless steel screen total cost with the backhoe was $8300 Your bid seems to be excessive to me!!!!

mid minnesota | Lots depends what they are drilling through , here we have granite from level with the ground to where ever , when they hit that drilling is very slow and costly, just south of us is sand drill 50 ft you have water to irrigate a section

Garland Maine | Well drilling here in Maine last year was $15 per foot of depth, plus $15 per foot of casing. The well driller had a package deal on 3/4 hp submersible pump, pipe, pitless adapter, pressure tank, controls, all installed for $1100. I could hardly touch all the materials for that retail, say nothing of my time to install. This was 50 or so feet from well to building. So in your case that would be: 80 feet $1200 20 feet of casing likely. $600 Pump and in well plumbing $1000 Making the new well integrated with your current system could be pricey, depending on how you want that to work. So given a quote of $8500 I would shop around.

Eastern Iowa | It might be priced OK. It's hard to tell. Bidding wells is tricky, I think. You don't know what you've got until you get down there sometimes. I drilled a secondary well here two years ago. Primary well was 160 feet deep and not supplying enough. Driller looked at the geology and told the the bid was contingent on finding enough usable water at the level he thought he would. Long story short, instead of getting a good supply of water around 200 feet he needed to go to 500 feet and through all kinds of shale. Dug 200+ feet the first day, the rest took the rest of the week. All totaled I think the well was close to $14K with a 1 hp pump and 1 1/2 inch line. Water quality is very different between the two wells. We wound up keeping the old well for use on the house and put a switching valve so it could feed the outside line if necessary. I just paid $5K for a well guy to come out and pull out a jet pump, and install a new submersible pump, in my good casing. I paid for the electrician to run a new box near the pump, $200.00. Not many well guys around here, they charge what they want.

Houston County, GA | That will buy a 4" 5 HP well with stainless screen at bottom. They provide a box but not the breaker box and other stuff you need. 4" 3HP is $7,700 4" 5 HP $8500 4" 7.5 HP 3 phase is $10,000.

Mount Upton NY | Cheap. Just got quoted 15k for a new well pump. We keep running low on water. It's there at 40 feet but can't pump it fast enough on these hot days. They wanted to go with a 10 HP pump variable speed. We didn't do that. Throttled down the pre cooler to keep water in front of cows. Ultimately water resiavoirs for balancing would be ideal.
