NE KS | Just bought an f350 1997 diesel. Still has automatic ford hubs. Guy I bought it from said they hadn't worked for a while. Got a set of warn locking hubs today from the car quest. Parts guy said that they should mount right up. Well they don't. I checked the part numbers and they are right. Apparently something needs change internally but I can't figure out what needs changed out. Any help is much appreciated. BDS |

| Pictures will help. Can you show a few of the hub where the old hubs came out. |

Culbertson, MT | Just a thought- they might be for the light duty F250. Ask them if the PN is the same for a '96. |

|
Lawton, MI | Should be an easy straight swap if they are correct for large or small hubs? |

Snipesville, GA | I done a change out some years ago for a friend and it was simple. Can't remember everything I did but all parts were in the kit. Truck was a '97 250. |

NE KS | Just did some looking on warn website and it says if you are replacing auto locking ford hubs you need to purchase a "corresponding spindle nut conversion kit" Does this ring a bell with anyone and what does it do? Im out to lunch on this stuff |

NE KS | Does a 97 f350 diesel have a large or small hub option? |

Dearfield Co. | Yes you are correct on the spindle nut----------it seems its a round one that takes a splined like socket to tighten or maybe its the other way around. It has been years since I have done one and can't remember exactly what I did |

Wyoming | I'm almost positive that all 97's, f250 and f350 were the large hub. |

|
N.C. Iowa | I changed my '96 over when I got it, but it seemed like there were some that had 3 bolts and some had 5 bolts on the out perimeter of the lockout which would require a different lockout depending on what you had. |

Manitoba, Canada | did you diagnose the original problem of it not auto locking the hubs? Pretty common issue, and one i have seen a few times is the vacuum pump. |

| Yes spindle nuts need changed, ford automatic hubs had of nuts that a "wire" locked them. When you tear it apart you will see what I mean. Go to the boneyard or napa and order the spindle nuts before you try. |

south texas | The nut from the autos will work with the manuals but it is a failure waiting to happen. The manual hub inner peice can be tricky to get axel shaft and hub splines lined up. Are u getting the inner peice started and it wont get past the snap ring slot? Is the inner peice too small? Its a dana 60 axel. We had the wire type spindle nut fail on our truck with manuals. Switched them both over to the old style 2 nut and lock ring. U will need a special socket for the 2 nut system. May need a special socket to get old wire type nuts off. There is a small half moon wire keeper holding the spindle nut on, find it before u try and remove nut. |

West Central IL | Had a bad vacuum line down by the front wheels bad one time on a set of them. Replaced the line, took 30 seconds and they've worked fine for the past 5 years since. |
