Has anybody ever had one of these and what are the pluses and minuses. Looking for something to spray some rough pasture with a creek and build fence. sounds like a cool idea - go right into the water with them. Or are they a repair nightmare. Looking at a couple used side by sides as well. Would like to be able to drive down rows as well. Any thoughts?

No experience but looking at the Argo web site I have to wonder how they would compare to something like a Polaris or a Deere Gator?  I can't see it being any cheaper to buy (or maintain for that matter).  You have  6 or 8 wheels vs 4. and it will be like driving a skid steer everywhere!

It might be better under certain conditions and that has to factor in your decision. How often do you need to bail off in a creek?

Which one is going to be easier to hop in and out of?  If it's easy to get in and out of, it will be used a lot more than one requiring you climb inside every time.

Which one will be easier to haul your cargo? A dump box is really handy every once in a while.  And a lot easier to clean out than a cargo area that doesn't dump.

As for going down the rows you need to do some measuring.  Also compare ground clearance.

Ask yourself which will retain its value 2-3-10 years down the road?  We have a Kawasaki Mule that will go almost anyplace (if it won't go you'll have trouble walking out) and a Rural King"Chuckwagon"  we use kind of like a utility golf cart.  We keep it out of the field and don't go muddin' with it and it works very well for that use. I know the Mule will bring at least half of what I gave for it and will have some value for quite a while.   I bought the Chuckwagon used for $1400.  It still had a price tag on it for ... I think $5995.  Consider what the Argo will cost and ask yourself honestly what you would give for one just like it 3 years old?

As you can tell I have a prejudice. My opinion is the Argo is a specialty vehicle for a specific use.  I'm just not convinced a farm is it.

Don't walk away, run.

A UTV and a john boat works much better and cheaper. They are hard to get in and out of water due to very low ground clearance.

I've owned a 6 wheel Argo roughly 5 years ago. They are really a play toy. I will admit going into water and floating is a plus , don't expect to travel fast in water. The tires are what propel you of course. I've went across a few stock tanks of mine that when wind blowing about 15-20 mph and making little waves in water, the Argo wouldn't go across the water straight into the wind. Didn't have enough propulsion since no propeller. I'm a tall guy, 6'2" so it was uncomfortable for me to ride comfortably in it cause being a 2 seater there wasn't much room to stretch out. Unless u really have money to spend on a toy, I'd steer clear unless you are in the swamp land. Would be good for swamp land to get around.

I rode in one once. It did turn like a skid steer. I think about anything else would be preferable.

A relative used to have an 8 wheeled one with treads. He bought it to go duck hunting in a millpond and it was a total bust. It floats nose down because of the engine location and if you come to any log or stump it won't climb over them because of the nose down attitude. It was easy to get high centered with it in the water. It was good on soft ground but useless in a swamp. It was also a slow swimmer. An electric trolling motor on it helped. Don't do it!
