NC Iowa | look for a machine shop auction. you will have to outbid those buying for resale. i got several wilton and columbian for around $50 or so that way. sometimes on craigslist but have to be fast. |

SW “Ohia” | Farm sales and machine shop auctions are the best place. New vises are hideously expensive compared to auction buys. You can resell them too; lot of demand for big vises and craigslist prices accordingly.
Look for Wilton, Yost, Columbian, Chas. Parker, Record, Old Craftsman, Reed, etc. I collect vintage bench vises and have never purchased a new one. They are just plain junk and not worth what they charge for them. |

| Find an old used one made in USA, they last forever. Most new ones are made in China and are junk. A good new one is very expensive. |

west central Iowa | I got a Pony brand vise at the local farmstore a couple years ago. I think it was made in china, but it was pretty reasonable on price and has worked good so far. |

| I have a pair of matching Prentiss 255 vices that came out of a local factory when it closed about 10 years ago. Think I gave $20 for each of them and they open 10-12" wide.
Looks like Prentiss closed in 1948, if those vices lasted 60 years in a factory getting beat on daily I bet they will outlast anything being built today. |

Texas Panhandle | I have this Wilton. It is not expensive. I'm not sure, maybe someone can tell us, what the difference is in the tradesman class. Or how much better they are? Am happy with mine so far.

I agree, I bought an old Morgan off eBay for $350. Our local hardware store used to stock Wilton's. But they had a hard time moving them when most people would grab the $100 China crap sitting next to it on the shelf. Now they order them in when someone wants quality. |

C KS | Wilton Tradesman, your choice of size. I got ours off of ebay brand new. Keep an eye on different online places, you can find a deal. The same vise sells in quite a price range. They are expensive but you will never find anyone that regrets buying one. I bought mine on advise from here and a mobile mechanic. |

Western New York | If you buy a Wilton, check it out before you buy it. I bought 2 from ebay and they were made in China.
Ok most of the time, but the handle bends under heavy use. Still like the older Made in USA Wilton's a lot better. |

|
So. IL | And you can still get the USA made Wilton's. Look up the tradesman and machinist line of vices. |

|
S.E. Iowa | Local machine shop ordered a Wilton cant find on vise where it says made in China but box clearly stated that. |

|
Toronto, South Dakota | If mounting to a bench look for an old post vise. Find an old 7" one and you'll never need another vice. The larger ones are getting rare/spendy. Some companies make new ones now. |

|
Central PA | I got 2 from Deere too, work good so far |

WC MN | Yost, NAT approved a few years back. |

Ne Ohio | Check out Craigslist!!! I found a old huge one on it think I paid $100
