North West IA/western AZ | I installed one 20 years ago this June. I am submitting my 3rd warranty submission for the same problem. The last one lasted 10 years, so they have improved. Anyone else have this problem? Most Larson storm doors are made of plastic and particle board and won't last long. I have had to add galvanized tin over the holes on my front door to keep the squirrels and birds from chewing the rotting particle board. I have bought a new one made only of steel, glass, and aluminum, no particle board. It should last better, it cost more. Its a pain to install because the hinges and latch have to be installed to fit the opening and with swing and there aren't holes for them in the raw door. So its only 3/4 built at this point. NC Iowa | i tried to collect under their warranty once. they applied the discount off the list price of a new door. NOT the selling price. that would have cost me more to buy under the warranty than to buy at their current selling price. this was at mennards. maybe lumberyard would be better.

I have two steel Larson storm doors that are 25 years old. The handles and latches wore out and was able to get parts from Larson. They were painted last year and look new. My experience is varied with vinyl/particle board storm doors in Minnesota. They do not last well.

At Menard's its a Larson Prescott. Might have a different name but the same Larson model number at other sources, its not a cheap door. Nearly twice the price if the rotting vinyl over particle board door. Gerald J.

NW Washington | Larson has different quality doors so the salesman at Lowes told me and that some doors should not be located where they are routinely exposed to the wind and rain. We had a Larson door on our house when we bought it that was exposed to the weather and eventually got water in to the osb type filler and then it swelled and the aluminum corroded. So the new door I have been assured will not get moisture into it and fail and it is rated for full exposure to the rain. Time will tell.

North West IA/western AZ | Funny they call it a storm door, yet it isn't rated for rain?
