South Central Indiana | So after seeing a couple posts around the internet about it im curious, is the detroit diesel series 40 (such as those used in the Agco Allis 9635/55) really a rebranded dt-466 navistar engine that maybe just has a detroit injection system?

Center of the Universe, Huron County, Ontario. Can | When DDC got away from 2 stroke, there was a void left in that hp range. So we had a distribution agreement with Navistar . Took the DT 466 successor engine, all DDC did is add a Series 40 emblem. The hard parts are 100% Navistar. The software is 100% Navistar. The DDEC Software is not compatible with this ECM. Not even a little. We sold both mechanical Bosch pump models and electronic engines. Sold to Agco in their tractors. The irony an IH engine in a Deutz Allis.. Sold to Terex in TS 14 front and rear engine scrapers. Two engines per scraper. Many sold into transit buses. Both in USA and Europe, Seen lots of replacement Series 40's at our Rotterdam Facility in Netherlands back in 2006. Lots sold as genset engines Some sold into European combines etc Basically the agreement was they could be sold anywhere Navistar did not sell ( so no Series 40 into On Highway trucks ) Sold well over 10 000 in the 1st ten years. Warranted and serviced by DDC . It came to an end when the MBE 900-4000 became available once Daimler bought Detroit Diesel in 2000. Still serviced them for many years after that. Fun stuff, I'd love to drop one in my 1460. But current engine works to good, but if it ever blows....... Would be meet to have electronic gauges -throttle etc etc. Regards Chris, Freightliner

NC KS | Older Agco tractors like a 9695 had a mechanical Bosch pump and injectors and were the 530 engine. 466 might have been in lower hp ones. The 97XX series was electronic with same injection system as a 7.3 powerstroke. Injectors would interchange but nozzled different.

Owensville, MO | Would that mechanical 530 engine bolt up in place of a mechanical DT466 say in a 1986 s1900 truck? Joe

The Detroit series 40 was never in a Deutz-Allis tractor......only an AGCO-Allis tractor. The displacements were DT-408.....DT-466.....DT-530. AGCO never used the 408, only the 466 and 530 cube sizes. Over the years AGCO used it, mechanical fuel injection was first and then the HEUI electronic system was next. This generation engine was never in an IH or Case-IH tractor. It was also a metric fastener engine.

Center of the Universe, Huron County, Ontario. Can | . We used to sell a Series 30 too It DID use DDEC ECM. It was a V8 natural gas version of a Navistar engine. I'm feeling old now.." NC KS | The 466 and 530 were the same block (longer stroke), I believe. If you put a tractor engine in a truck, you might need the clutch housing, also.

Wi | A lot of guys run them, I'm all for it because it brings in a lot of different colors. There's still some running the old allis motors though.
