It seems all new pickups (all brands) have rear sliding windows... I can't see what the purpose is, except in a standard or regular cab pickup.  I'm just curious to why they are so popular that 90% of crew and extended cabs have them.  I think they would be a PITA to squeegee clean, and just more seals to eventually leak dust into the cab.

Nice to have the option, although it is kind of like a sun roof, adds $$$ to purchase price but really doesn't get used much. One thing they are nice for is a pickup camper you can access the cab from the camper.

Didn't think I would use mine much, but I found out it's really nice on those days when it's not warm enough to run the AC but you want some fresh air and still listen to the radio.

I'm sold! great way to pump some fresh air into the cab! can't wait for the first alfalfa field to be dropped in the neighbourhood? I know? it's a livestock farmer thing:)

My cousin has a coin-operated rear sliding window. His son usually sits in the back seat and if you give him coin, he'll operate the window.........

I am not sure where you got your numbers, but I believe 90% of long cab pickups do not have a rear sliding
window. I have bought several of them over the years and would not want one.

I do. Dog likes to stick his head in the cab. Not necessary, but he thinks so.

My numbers are not all that technical.  Just drove through a GMC/Chevy/Ford dealer lot this afternoon and that's what was there for new pickups.  I have a 2013 crew cab and when I bought it a few years ago there were not many that had the rear sliding window option... now all of a sudden it must be popular.

More crap to go bad, just like sunroofs that never gets used.
GM already had a recall on their power slider.

I broke the back window out of a crew cab F150 and the replacement window with the slider was cheaper than the full piece of glass.

IMO another pointless option, like bragging about the cubic foot capacity of a pickup box, all that translates to is a ungodly tall pickup box that is pretty useless and the gooseneck can get hung up on the side rails.

Also goes along with class leading horsepower.....at 6000 RPM.

Alot of things to brag about in the marketing, but frankly is useless in the real world.

I have one in my 11 super crew. Air flow through the dash vents about doubles when you open the rear slider, but very little wind noise added by that power slider being open. As others say, works well when the temp is just so a little more vent air is nice without turning on AC or running the blower so fast..

Used to be on a short cab, the slider window made it handy to toss empty cans into the pickup box. ;)

I have a 4dr with power slide rear window. Aside from throwing cans out once in a while, not much use.

I don't like when mine is open it causes some type of weird pressure pulsing that will drive your eardrums nuts

Oh and I broke one out of the last pickup. Just shy of 1000 to replace............

It's best option on pickup I think. Open that baby up rolling down the road and you get fresh air without needing to turn up radio or turn on ac or turn on heat. A sun roof does not belong in se paragraph as a powered rear sliding window.

Now I never open my rear cab windows or passenger side windows.

I use mine quite a bit. Run the rope for the brake on the tile cart through the back window. Works a lot better than through the side windows. And its nice being power slider with a crew cab because you dont have to reach all the way back to open. Not saying i woukdnt buy a truck because it didnt have one but it sure is handy. Truck is 8 years old and so far no problems. That being said it probably wont work tomorrow.

I like mine also for those not real windy days, and don't want to run the a.c. You get a nice breeze blowing through. Don't use it a lot..... BUT, its nice when you open windows a bit

I agree the deforster is valuable, but on the newer Fords, they will slide and have a defroster. Mine does and I didn't order it, but it is a Lariat.

Now that I have one I would not be with out one. I have a tented rear window so I open the window to see when I back up to hook up trailers. Also if I have help and I'm backing up to something I can hear them, an I can yell at them.

Father in law has a power slide rear Window in a 4 door pickup he uses it to let the smoke out while he is smoking. Darn nice truck to mess up with cigarette smoke.

That doubling of airflow through the defroster vents can make all the difference if you hit freezing rain and your windshield starts icing up.

Good for after eating at Taco Bell, just crack the driver side a little and open the back window and it sucks it out! Also works on the wife's side!

Same here. I can hear the wife instead of trying to decipher hand gestures in the mirror when I'm backing up to something. Also makes it easy for back seat passengers to reach the cooler in the back.
