NW KS/ SC ID | Hey all,
I am in need of a quality roll pin punch set.
It has to be from a company that gives a crap about quality, and made in a country that is the same way (US, Canada, many European countries, etc.) Price is the next factor. I dont want to go crazy, but will pay for quality.
Mayhew and Proto are the ones I am looking at. Anything else? Craftsman?
I need a good set, but I dont need the best set known to mankind.
Are the Craftsman punches very good? That would make the warranty much easier to claim if I broke one, as we have a Sears Hometown Store locally.
Any input appreciated, thanks! |

South TX | I have a set of mayhew, have had good luck with them. I've just about worn the point off of one though replacing many ripper point roll pins...but those a pretty extreme beating sometimes. |

michigan | we have snap on set and are very good quality and have a life time warranty you can go to any snap-on dealer and get them replaced if they break. and are not as expensive as you might think |

north west arkansas | I bought a proto set earlier this year and are doing good so far. They said as long as we don't grind or weld on them the would warranty them.
Edit: proto was expensive but not terrible.

Wallis, TX | IIRC Mayhew got sold and is now made overseas. Snap-on has a good set but you may have to go by the bank for a loan before you go to the truck! |

Litchfield, NY | Anyone know of a metric roll pin set? |
|
|
|
N. IL | Got a set of Mayhew from Buzzard Gulch at farm show few years ago. Anything with the ball point is better than not. We have both, hate using the blunt set.
I would love to make a sleeve for each punch to start the roll pins. Hate beating my fingers or fighting the visegrips to start the pins. |

SW Michigan | I've had good luck buying used snap on sets on eBay. Generally half of new and the warranty is still good. |

Minier, Illinois | I just ordered this set yesterday.

oregon | My experience is that the Snap-Ons seem to have a better temper to their punches and chisels. I often chip edges off new Craftsmans and Mayhews but I have some 20 year old Snap On punches that are still not chipped.
edit: just guessing that it's the temper...

Fruita CO | I bought a set of Mayhew I think off the Snap-on truck back in the early 70's. Used the heck out of them for over 40 years, lost a couple & broke one of the tiny ones...I bought a smaller set from Buzzard Gulch a few years back to replace the missing ones. Good for my money... |

| Get ahold of a 5 star rep if there is one and get theirs. Guaranteed for life and they replace lost ones. |

| I've had a set of Craftsman Roll pin punches for several yrs, maybe 10+.
Never broke one yet, honestly I think if you use a roll pin punch for its intended use and use the correct size the chances of breaking or bending one would be much less than a regular punch.
The plastic pouch they came in isn't much, I think they're in a small can now.

| Snap On punches and chisels are the best I've ever used. |

Trivoli, Illinois | I have Dasco with no problems. I really like there awl, use it for a punch, alignment, digging, just order one you will love it. http://www.dascopro.com/ |

Fruita CO | The Snap-on guy told me once they COULD make punches & chisels a lot better than they do, but they don't want them too hard. Liability issues from chips flying & injuring an eye, or something... |

NW Minnesota | I purchased some from Enderes last year, seem to be good quality. Made in MN. http://www.enderes.com/catalog/catalog.htm |
