With all of this rain I am getting worried about a dry fall. Where can I buy a 2.5 gal one reasonably. I feel like $125 is a little steep but maybe I'm wrong. I have looked online and don't feel like there are any "deals".

Get ours through the NAPA store. They have a fire extinguisher outfit that comes around to refill dry ext and have lots of them for sale. Think they are illegal in commercial buildings anymore. Pretty handy, used one yesterday to clean up after butchering a deer. Think we have about 15 of them and carry them in all pickups, trucks and combines during the dry season. Don't forget to drain them if it gets cold. $125 sounds like a lot for a used one. Think maybe $50-60 would be closer.

Got mine from the fire extinguisher guy for $95.00, was new. $52.00 for the bracket. Add a half cup of Dawn dish soap to the water, makes your extinguisher more efficient.

+1 with both comments, I think too they are illegal for certain applications / placement,
also check your salvage yards / scrap dealers.

Rual king had them, and I'm thinking less than $100 on them, but it's been a while since I looked at them.

It's not a super deal, but I'd say it is fair.

We've made some out of the 100# propane bottles. Fill about 80% full of water, pressurize to 80 psi, and it will spray from a garden hose nozzle for 4 continuous minutes. At first it will spray about 40', and gradually tapers off.

I kept looking at one a couple of years ago at Rural King for about $75 and didn't bite.  Darned if it didn't go on clearance after sitting on the shelf for a year and I bought it for $40.  I couldn't believe it.  Usually it works the other way.

We carry one of those 2-3 gallon pump sprayers.  They usually last about  2 years.  Most of the time, the O rings or gaskets give up first.  Less   $ than most ideas, and can shoot a stream to where it may be needed

I have had good luck picking them up at flea markets and antique tractor shows, usually for around $25 to $35.

If you have any local racers check with them. They use them to cool the engine down after a race. Patrick

If you know of anyone that has an old business they used to be mounted around on the walls. They may still have them like in an upstairs or etc. I have a friend that gave me one out of their business.

Soap?

The surfactant in detergent will make the water wetter, just like when you spray; It breaks the surface tension of the water droplets so they spread out rather than run off. So it will fight more fire on the same amount of water.

You might check with your local fire department. That is where we got ours. Our department keeps a good supply on hand, and have sold them at cost to anyone that is interested. Besides the dish soap, put in some RV-marine antifreeze when cold weather sets in.

You need to get stuff from local fire extinguisher company to keep them from freezing.

"IF" you ever have a fire and need to collect do tell the adjustor that  LOL !!!!

There is NO substitution for a water extinguisher, if you have used one you would know,  your pee shooters are nothing next to them

Well, it's actually going on a MF 300 so maybe more like $2,000 in pristine running condition.... J/K it's going on a Lexion. I already have fire extinguishers on the rig (abc's) which are better than nothing I guess. I was just wanting something more useful and effective in a trash fire situation and didn't want to be had like most of the housewives in America are on GMO's. Thanks for the info.

Boxer - 10/15/2014 18:00 Soap?

Reduces surface tension of the water so it is more effective.
