western mn | I'm looking at adding a buddy seat to a 1998 8200. The post below got my attention and I looked at the KnM and Shoup options, I know it's not a big deal, but they seemed a little crude to me. Are the John Deers built the same with the verticle bracket by the drivers left leg? I only seen a small picture of John Deeres and it looked alot neater ....as they should be for another $150. my upholstery is already partially torn there from people sitting on it. Has anyone decided to go with the John Deere over the other companies? if so why? were you happy? Tia |

MN | done 2 with factory deere's a 9000 and 8000. more $$$ may have to replace a piece of upholestry. but i thought the factory look was worth the extra cost and effort..i do kno the buddy seat from deere has really gone up in the last few years, i've wondered of a guy could get % during the spring/fall parts specials to make it more reasonable. |

Sw Ks | When I found out deere wanted $800 for a buddy seat in my 8300 I decided I could live with the aftermarket one. Besides that shout has the exact same one as deere now. |

ecsd | I don't mean to hijack your thread but can you swivel the seat with the buddy seat installed? It looks like the back of the buddy seat will hit the armrest of the main seat. Sorry again for hijacking the thread.![](http://s7d6.scene7.com/is/image/shoupparts/27200_02wm?locale=en&id=Uyun13&wid=640&hei=480&fmt=jpg)

Fayette Co, Iowa | Just bought one for our 8300 from K and M. I hope it holds up for what they get for them. |

SE MN | I think the JD one is much nicer, because it attaches to a flat plate under the upholstery on the fender. I have tractors with both styles in them and I definitely think the JD one is a better design and more solid seat. However, K&M offers two different styles and I suspect that the newer styled one might be identical to one offered at JD dealerships. You have a 1998 model, so either style should work in your tractor.
Newer style JD-like buddy seat: http://www.tractorseats.com/p-105026-jd-buddy-seat-7020-9000t-serie...
K&M aftermarket style: http://www.tractorseats.com/p-104803-jd-8000-8010-8020-buddy-seat.a... |
