Does anyone know of a boot maker that makes premium pull on work boots? I am looking for the Danner equivalent of pull-on work boots. Justin, Ariat, Chippewa, Red Wing, Irish Setter, etc. Anything sold at a farm supply store or western store will not be considered. Don't want to sound uppity about my boots, but they are my feet and, so far, the only work boots that I have ever found to be worth a damn are no longer made. West/NW Minnesota | I agree. Red wings are the way to go. Takes a bit to break them in. Side note, band-aide makes a product called friction block. Like a tiny deodorant stick. Put on the back of your heels and no blisters. Great product, as are my red wings.

Red wing...dad and I both generally get 2 years or so out of a pair. Ariats don't hold up well for me

East Prairie, MO | I have never made it past the break in period on Red Wings, or Ariats either for that matter, therefore I hate them both. However, Rocky Aztec's are practically broken in out of the box and I can get a little over a year out of them with each and every day spent in comfort. I'm willing to buy a pair of boots every year so I will enjoy the farm supply store brand while you are all wrapping your feet in bandages LOL!

IA | +1 I will never own another pair of pull on redwings again. Rocky's get my vote. Way comfortable right out of the box and I think they hold up better. The redwings stitching is gone on the side of the boots and the sole is seperating from the boot. Inside of the boot feel apart faster then the outside. Plus side I could finally take the tape out of 200dollar boots so I didn't get blisters on my feet.

Dearfield Co. | all this stuff you guys mention qualify for the hand me down category if you ask me.When I buy footwear its either a cheap athletic shoe or boots that fit the task. For work boots I usually get a variation of Loveless boots elephant pack boot.Loveless boots out of OKC has a website and they build the boot for you not some chinaman .If I want a boot that is a pull on thats a little fancier its Ponder Boot out of Tx.My father wore ML Leddy boots most of his life and the fit as well as how a hand crafted to your foot boot that can be re-crafted numerous times makes these other things look stupid

Thanks for all the input. So far, all of your recommendations feature glue on soles and/or western style soles for their pull-on / Wellington style boots. Edited by Land_Surfer 11/12/2013 22:36

I fractured the support under my foot back in '79 and had to have custom made pods to wear. Dr said I would have to wear them the rest of my life. I have since started wearing Eccho shoes & boots , They are the only shoe / boot I have found that I don't have to wear the pods. They are hand made in Portugal. Unfortunately they don't make a slip on boot so I wear their hiking boot. I have tried Red Wings in the past, even before my injury, and I never did care for them.

Baldwin City, KS | Get along extremely well with Carolina boots. I wear lacers, but I would think they make pull on . Plus I generally find them for under $100. Can't beat that IMO.

NW Oklahoma |
If you want a boot that will feel like a glove on your foot, go with Lucchese. Yes new ones will cost at least $400, but I just bought a pair of worn once off of e-bay for $150. They have rubber sole available on limited styles. Go to a western wear store and try new lucchese's on to find your size. Then get on ebay and save some money. Don't buy the ones that have a style number beginning with M. Those are made in mexico and will not run true to size.
Edited by sandhillsam 11/13/2013 07:32

Ridgway, IL | I believe you will have trouble finding a danner lace up quality level in a pull on boot. I believe they are built for active work, that doesn't lend itself to pull-on boots.... because of the lack of support. I think they figure if you don't need the strength of a lace up, you probably don't need the overboard quality either? There are a fair amount of coal miners, rock quarries, and a few loggers/sawmillers around here. Guys wear danners, matterhorns, and I see some wearing whites. You don't see these guys wearing pull on boots unless its a more casual situation. Most of these guys are wearing metatarsals now. I wear non insulated, lace up, danner bull runs. I feed cattle, and farm. They have a crepe vibram sole, so wont track stuff everywhere. I feel the same way as you, would pay whatever for the right boots. The quality difference between a danner, and the run of the mill red-wing is not comparable, and the danners really aren't all that much more. We have a workwear store in the area, that serves a huge amount of miners. If I buy these danners, they are 175$, the common red-wings are 140 or so. I do not wear steel toes, but the coal miners have to, along with the met-tarcel. It does take a month to break them in though. The cheaper boots wont hold up to being wet/washed all the time like the better boots will. I did have a pair of red-wing heritage series work boots a few years ago, they were good quality, but not as good as the danners, and were about 2wice the price, above 300. I think they try to market those heritage boots as more of a style deal... but they're better craftsmanship than the ones that they usually have on the redwing displays.
