Whats really the point of buyer a used trailer any more? I'm in the market for a 28-35' tandem with dual wheels and most guys are asking within 1k of new price for something that's older and looks like crap. I think I'll just buy a new one.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

I agree with you. We were looking for a used trailer and if it was cheap it was junk. Anything that was good was priced just like u said so we bought a new one but I must say the used ones r getting sold so don't know if guys don't price new or what.

I have seen the same thing. I am getting ready to buy me a 30ft tandom dually and cant see the point of buying a used one with what guys are asking for them. Also I am being a bit picky about the dove tail. Titan has a 6ft dovetail I really like. with this long of a dovetail I think I can load a pickup on this trailer fairly easily in the case I had to.

I agree as we'll. I had one I bought new, used it a few years. It needed new tires so I sold it and bought a new one for what the new tires would of cost me. And sold the used one for more than I paid for it new.

I find their resale amazing also. Called on a very clean 2007 (but still 6 yrs old) 30' PJ tandem dually, guy was asking $6500 and got it. Priced a new one for $9000. Just new tires alone (if a used tlr needed them) would be $1600 on a tand dually. I advertised our 1991 Hillsboro 30' triple axle (with new tires/lites) for $5100; 4 guys called soon after that would have bought it, but first one bought it over the phone. New one was $8500.

Whatever you buy make sure it is painted underneath and make sure it doesn't have scotch locks for butt connectors.

I have a 2006 Hurst and it was cheap (I bought it new). I didn't even look underneth it before I bought it. The brakes and some of the lights quit working within a few months of having it because of their half azz wiring.

Trailers and cattle gates seem to always sell at close to new prices. I guess its because everyone can use them. I was looking for a good used skidloader trailer for several years. The only time I saw one that was a good deal was when the trailer was a premium priced one (Towmaster) and everyone at the auction thought the guy had paid more than enough for it, but he saved several thousand $$$ and got a 1 yr old trailer that looked new.

its too difficult to find a "good" used flatbed gooseneck.
I'll have pitty for the guy who picks up our flatbed (32' tandem dual) once it leaves the farm. It looks good from a walk-a-round, but we've replaced both hubs on the rear axle, wheel bearings all around and constantly gross the pickup & trailer out at 40k lbs. I don't have a problem being honest disclosing everything I mentioned here, but that flatbed has seen nicer days.
For peace of mind, buy a new one...

We've grown to a point where it will make more sense for use to get a 53/48' drop deck and a ~24' gooseneck for smaller hauls.
It's too easy to get in over their head in the event where some teeny-bopper pulls in front of you while barreling down the highway and you've gotta hit the binders because that same kid now wants to make an abrupt left turn.
Just my $.02, take it for what it's worth.

Is there Federal Excise Tax on a new gooseneck like hopper bottom trailers? Perhaps this figure is included in the pricing that was mentioned in the above posts.
Just wondering.

I just bought a 2003 model Protrack, 20', tandem duals, etc. I paid $4k for it with seven new tires and one at 50%. Maybe I got lucky, but I found it easily and bought it. It took me two weeks to sell my 1997 Roadboss 14k trailer. It was a very well built trailer

They are within a grand or so here too for a 32' tandem dually also. Not worth getting a used one.

if i was you i'd put the 8th tire on it needs, sell it for 6500 and go buy a brand new one thats 10 years fresher. youde only have 5000 invested in a brand new tailer.

It kicks in at 26,000 GVW or at least it did in 1995. Mine is rated at 24,000 GVW and I did not have to pay it.

Same thing with livestock trailers around here. Went to a farm auction hoping to get a deal on a couple older goosenecks for sale. Brought within $1000 of new. Junk tires, lights would need redone, rust, floors needed work. I couldn't believe it.

Shoot, I live in the Freakin' trailer building capitol of the world I think. Used trailers don't often cross my mind as I can almost always get a new trailer at a better price than I see other new trailers listed in other places and, like you said, not much higher than used.

we have bought a few used from a good buddy and he gives us a deal on them. usually in it 3500 or less for 14K GVWR bumper or gooseneck 20-25 ft. usually no dovetail.

we also bought new a pair of trailers for a tick under 8 grand fall of 2011. both bumper pull, one a never used New old stock 09 PJ 26ft deckover, other a demoed 11 PJ 24 ft heavy car trailer. both wood deck, straight tail, 14K GVWR.

we figure unless we sneak up on a good deal at an auction, or when our buddy upgrades, we buy new. looking to do the same on a semi dropdeck. I bet we could sell our Neville Single axle dovetail dropdeck for more than we paid for it, and it has blowout damage, and, for not much more, go buy a new Jet.
