Panhandle of Ne.
work and are they as easy to install as they website claims? Just replace factory vacuum door and run the wiring harness to the monitor?

Put them on for this year, have them ran through a 20/20 Rowflow Module and absolutely love them. Have easily saved us over $3000 in seed this year alone. Have not had any troubles, hiccups, or delays from the clutches. Took quite a long time to get them calibrated properly, but I'd rather spend time making sure the timing from the 20/20 is correct so it's not a sloppy job when the corn came up.

I just installed mine this spring.  Have not used yet but am getting finished up tomorrow to start planting.  I am running the unit on the Ag Leader Integra.  The vac covers are very easy in install and setup.  I will have to give a report at the end of the week as to how well they work out for me.

Thanks Duane. It would be really nice to know how well they work. They seem "to" simple to mount on the planter compared to other row clutches.

I was told that they do not work well with Pinto Beans.  I decided to add the shut offs to my interplants as well as the corn rows to make the planter to really run the same for all planting.  May not have the payback as quick on soybeans.  Since my unit is a 2004 model it would have more expensive to control everything with a Deere unit and my AMS support in the area has not been very good for me so have been going more towards Ag Leader equipment.  I updated to Precision Planting equipment also on all the row units at the same time I put on new disks, scrapers, gauge wheel arms, firming wheel arm bushings and put in totally tubular fertilizer tubes in the 16-30 rows.  Should almost be a new planter for me. An upgrade over my 8 row 7000.

I looked at them at Ag Leader factory. There sure isn't much to them. A piece of plastic about 1.5 inches square and a push solenoid electromagnet hooked to a plain cover. If they get some use and history, and they work, there will be knockoffs. Quickly.

Do you lose all of the seed in the plate when it shuts off?
If so, your planter has to be on for a while to refill plates?

Thats where the time+setup comes in. Dealer that put ours on spent probably 2-3+ hours checking, and calibrating the rowflow until it was dead on at 5mph.

IF you calibrate for the delay in the clutches and the time it falls down the seedtube, it'll be spot on everytime (assuming you keep your MPH relative to the calculated speed).

Ebert, if I may ask. What are your look ahead times set at for turning on and off at 5 mph.
I think mine are .9 sec. for off and .4 sec. for on. Sound right?
Have a 1760 JD pull type that is planting 15ft. from the hitch.

So you have to have the planter drive turning for a ways to reload?
Or on a ground drive, you have to have the planter down long enough for the plates to fill?

We are on our second year with SureVac's operating a 24R20" 1790. Installation was fairly simple with a harness from Ag Express. It operates through a GS2 Rate Controller.

The shutoff time should be set as short as possible; the solenoids operate nearly instantly. Unlike a sprayer, where the shutoff time delay is caused by pressurized product exiting the wet boom, the shutoff delay with SureVac's on the planter translates to a fixed distance. Calculate this distance using your avg. spacing multiplied by the seed holes between the shutoff and drop point. Subtract this distance from your planter's length as the drives continue to turn and plant the remaining seeds left in the space before the drop point.

While operating the planter, at least with our setup, it is critical to time planter drop with the turn on point for the drives. Our planter uses a John Deere normally open push button planter down switch, and a variable voltage sensor for the bar height. Our planter uses Seedstar 1 Gen 2 (not to be confused with Seedstar 2) While entering a pass, the turn on point for the VRD's must be set to a fairly low frame level (I set mine under 10) as to limit the time delay between the drive turn on and the actual first seed drop. To the best of my knowledge, the planter must sense actual seed drop to establish drive operation. If there is no sensor input, the error message "drives failed to respond" trips and the drives stop. The maximum time interval is a few seconds, so after optimizing the sensor timing, it works great.
