We have purchased a new W.M. freezer and I am having question about the locking handle that holds the motor on top of the drum.  See pictures.

It appears that the handle does not hold the motor down in any why, when we rotate the handle.  It only keeps the motor housing from being able to move to the side.

If some one has such a freezer could you please look at yours and reply.

We wanted to use this freezer this weekend and it was ordered so there would not be time to get a different one.  I would should borrow a different one instead of using this one.

Thanks.

It will not lock over the top. The first photo should be lock mode although our peg sitting in the slot seems to be longer and the tab on the lock fits behind the head of the peg.

The motor assembly needs to be pushed past the side of the bucket enough so the lever will cam against the the side of the tab.

First thing I would do is fill the bucket full of water overnight and let it swell. Dad bought a new one last summer and the first time we used it leaked severely, that might make the difference so it will latch.

I just went to the basement and looked at mine, its still new in the box and it won't latch either.

I just needed to be more firm with the bucket.  I moved the motor head more out and now when I rotate the handle it comes down on the motor extension and locks onto it.

As I said above.  I just needed to be more firm with the motor head and move it to the side more and now the lever locks down on the tap.  See pictures.

The pictures are one from the left side and one from the right side.

Yep, you got it right now. Those things seem to last a long time. I make home made ice cream so that we always have it in the freezer and usually make two batches each time.

I think they run around $200 or so for an electric one. I bought ours from Lehman's hardware in Kidron, Ohio. If you do a search you can find their website, although they might be cheaper from somewhere else. We were just there checking the place out---Amish country in Ohio.
Here is their website: http://www.lehmans.com/

Prices on these really vary. Best bet is to look on eBay and take the least expensive one. Some can be had for less than $200.00 if you shop wisely.

Don't settle for anything other than White Mountain. Although Rival owns them now and quality is not what it used to be, they're still the only real ice cream freezer out there.

I know you got it to latch, but that motor housing looks really short on that bucket. I'm wondering if you have a 4 quart motor frame on a 6 quart freezer.

Made two batches last weekend with white mountain 4 quart. Latch rusty and no wd 40 so made them without latching. Ice Cream tasted the same as when locked.
