Illinois | I have been out of the snowmobile scene for awhile, and now would like to buy a sled for moma, and myself to ride. What is a good family sled that isn't going to have alot of maintenance?? Are the 4 stroke engines the way to go??? It doesn't have to be the fastest sled, comfortable for two adults is a must, and dependable are more important to me. Also, do you have a favorite online store to buy snowmobile suits, gloves, etc., or do you just buy from the local shop??? TIA

![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=433&type=profile&rnd=921) Berrien County Michigan | The new ski doo 1200 4 stroke is a very quick sled. Maintence is simple and fuel economy seems good, and it will run with a 600cc two stroke. I would look for a renegade edition which has a longer track, with a two-up seat the longer track will ride better |

NC Iowa | I'll second that choice |

Rivers, MB | I have heard good things about the Skidoo 1200 4 stroke as well.
Check out the skidoo dealer in Sauk Centre, MN. Have a large online store. We stopped there on our way to Mpls in November and were very friendly to deal with.

Manson IA | I'm not a Yamaha guy, but if I where to buy what you are looking for, it'd be a yami. I've never been a fan of 2up sleds either, if it where me, I'd buy two lower priced or used sleds. It's more fun for both that way. That's my $.02 anyway...
I'll find out in a week how the new Doo 4strokes are though.. Got 2 of 'em heading west with us...

![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=433&type=profile&rnd=921) Berrien County Michigan | It'll be interesting to here how they do in the deep and steep, they are a great trail sled, but weigh something like 60lbs heavier then my 2010 800R, and you can defiantly tell it when your trying to throw it around. |

North of Iowa | I would recommend a Yamaha RS Venture, 4 stroke with 2up seat. Yamaha has been at the 4 stoke for along time. |

Illinois | Sounds like Skidoo, and Yammy are still the favorites. That makes it easier. So 2 sleds instead of one, what personal size sleds would be good that you can still haul a second person once in a while. Again, doesn't have to be the fastest of the sleds, just good family sleds. Stick to Skidoo, and Yamaha, as they have always been my fav. too. TIA |

N.W. Illinois | Ck with you insurance agent on premium cost before you purchase a larger cc machine. Many insurance companies will not even write a policy on them anymore. The ones that will wont a arm and a leg. |

Rivers, MB | I just bought a '09 MXZ TNT. It has a 600 cc carbed engine. Had a factory 2 up seat mounted. It can be unclipped in 10 seconds. That way I can ride with my kids when needed or unclip the seat and am back to a fun to ride single seat sled.
What price range are you looking at?

Are you sure about that, my agent only cares if it's a race sled or not. |

| My old insurance company would not write a policy on anything larger than a 600. Fram Bureau will write it on any sled and they are my new insurance provider. Pretty reasonable pricing also.

Illinois | Price range??? ... Just would like sleds with low miles in nice cond. If it's cold, and snowing out and I'm 1 hour from home, I don't want snowmobile problems, and I am willing to pay for something decent. Was looking for information from NAT guys on ; brand, and models that might fit my needs. Then I can look for those models online. Sounds like we have the brands down to; Skidoo, and Yamaha, now need to get down to some models. Thanks... |

East Central Indiana | I personally am a polaris guy so to choose between the Ski don't and the yammi I would pick the ski don't every time. 3 guys in the group I ride with sent there yammi's packing when they realized how light my new switchback was compared to there sleds that weighed 2 ton!!! Yammi is notorious to have heavy sleds(other than the phazer)...fast yes, but I will lose 3-5 mph any day over having a heavy sled.
My buddy just picked up an 05 ski doo renegade 800 HO (longer track and and more seat room) that just turned 3k miles for $3200
Maybe polaris isn't what you are looking for but they have some sleds without all the bells and whistle and they are "shift" models. They come with reverse and heated hand and thumb warmers but not all the other extras(racing shocks, handle bar risers, etc). Another buddy of mine just sold his 09 600 shift with 2400 miles on it for $3500. They also make the shifts in a 2 UP.
A couple places to start looking are sledswap.com, hardcoresledder.com |

Northwest Ohio | I ride a Yamaha Apex, new ones are 160 horse 4 stroke with power steering. I rode a new one last week in the U.P with power steering and it was amazing! my little nephew could even turn that thing really easy it makes a difference! and they have a Vector that is 130 horse same exact thing is the Apex just 30 horse left. I drive an 06 Apex now and they get good fuel milage from a two stroke. i was getting 23 mpg with mine runnin it preety good. So if your just look to cruise i am sure it would do better. and you can still haul someone else with you without goin to the 2 up. Yamaha has had the sled of the year for the past 4 years if that says anything. I also have heard good on ski doo's the bigger models the smaller are junk you get under a 600 there a joke. but yamaha or ski doo is the way to go |

NE ND | I'm a polaris guy, but with everything u stated, the choice would be easy for me. 600cc ski doo in either a mxz or renegade. |

| If you wanted a cheaper used sled that's absolutely perfect for your needs you could look into a Arctic Cat T660 Turbo my buddy has one its....great on gas, not the most powerful but they have good power (probably as much as ski doo 1200), luxury, 4 stroke reliability, and quiet as a mouse (I think its a disadvantage but it can be nice) plus it is a very nice lookin sled. And if you wanted to really spend the bucks for what you want a Z1 Jaguar (non Turbo) or possibly a Z1 Turbo (Currently Fastest Production Sled)
Just a thought if you wanted to consider another brand |

southeast nebraska | Buy a big 800 mountain sled 174 inch track and a turbo on it. You will hate it for what you want to use it for and list for sale cheap that way I can pick me up another turbo mountain sled without spending a fortune. Thanks for helping out. Kidding. Stay with 4 strokes, reliable low matience. Can't go wrong |

![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=433&type=profile&rnd=921) Berrien County Michigan | They started making the ski doo 1200 four stroke in in 09 I believe, the mxz short track version came in a TNT package, which was an improved suspension. The renegade which is 137 innch track is available with all sorts of options. Both chassis packages are also available with the 600etec which is fuel injected.

Mid Michigan | I think spending $10 or $12 thousand dollars on any snowmobile is ridiculous. I guess it depends on how much a guy likes his hobby. Craigslist is just crammed full of affordable nice sleds that can be bought for a song. You didn't really say what you wanted to spend but there are a ton of choices. Living in Illinois a mountain sled would probably not work very well. They don't like to be ridden on low snow conditions. Really ride rough. For as cheap as you can buy a nice used sled I wouldn't even consider a two up sled. They're really not very fun for the rider or the driver. I ride a 440 Arctic Cat snow cross sled that is a riot to ride anywhere. Every time I ride that a crowd of people want to see what it is and check it out closer. They are very affordable to buy used and the sled seems to be rock solid reliable. Mine is the 440 fan that is 66 hp. Unreal how it runs. Has the 1 1/4 paddle track and very long travel front and rear suspension. Makes you seem like a lot better rider than you actually are! Will do about 93 mph on a good day. Lot of fun factor in the smaller fan cooled sleds and the price is very good. 570 Arctic Cat Z is also a rock solid sled for the price. Some of the dealerships have screaming deals on leftover models from 1-2 or even 3 years old still in the crate. I really don't care for the 4 stroke Yamaha's because they weigh about 900 lbs and are kind of like driving a Honda Goldwing on the snow! My neighbor bought one (he already totalled it) but when he opened the hood I thought it was everything I don't want in a snowmobile. Just a pure cluster@##K under the hood like you wouldn't believe and as big as a tank. Polaris makes a lot of very good reliable fan cooled sleds that will be affordable, reliable, and easy to maintain. Made in the USA. I buy some Arctic wear that I pick up either at a snow show or on ebay. Lot of nice snowmobile clothes out there at just about any dealership. |
