Subject: It has been a tough start for the garden so far

East Central Arkansas

I haven't had the time or the weather to tend to our garden like it should be so far this spring. Getting the real crops planted on the farm has been quite a challenge and have just made a start at that. It did dry enough late yesterday afternoon I was able to run the tiller through what we have planted. Due to the extremely cold late winter weather the onions were planted about a month late and I had held those plants in storage for that month. I planted a couple of rows of snap beans at the same time we planted the onions and have had two different cold spells I had to cover them because of frost. Have also had chemical drift on garden and those beans really tell off as to what part of the chemical drift was. The cabbage and broccoli does look good though. I don't know if we will make much of a onion crop or not as I notice some are beginning to bolt. I do have several varieties so maybe one or two varieties will make some nice size onions.
