Subject: Soybean Population Plot

Prairie Home MO
Took the plot out last night. Beans are DRY. They were planted in 30” rows May 22. The bottom 100k strip I think would’ve yielded right with the bottom 120k strip but it had an extended portion of the strip in a terrace channel and the weed control was subpar.

Strips were planted starting on the east end of the field and worked my way west. The ground gets better as you go west as evidenced by the yields.

Weed control was less effective in the lower pops but still adequate. It was a tough year for spraying with the way the weather turned out.

We were dry and hot from late July and through most of August. By the time we got a rain they were already turning. Am I right in thinking if there was ever a year for the higher pops to do substantially better it would be a year like we had with it being dry and heat stress? I was surprised the yields were basically equal.
